It seems that despite their claims that they will continue to support their products many of the patches and upgrades that Metacreations once offered on their site are no longer available. (For instance Corel only offer the Bryce 401 upgrade and none of the patches etc. for earlier versions). So if you lost your patches, forgot to backup or had a crash you are in trouble. However, spurred on by Anthony's question about the Bryce 3.01 upgrade I went looking and got lucky. The Metacreations ftp site is still up and has ALL of their patches, upgrades and goodies for ALL of their products. This may be the last chance many of us have to recover missing upgrades and patches so don't waste any time getting them. The ftp address is: ftp://ftp.metacreations.com/pub/Applications/ Once there you will see all of the folders for all their products listed, double click on your goal and keep double clicking until you reach the relevant Zip files. Then simply right click on the file you want and choose "copy to folder" and pick the destination folder on your Hard Drive. (BTW most of the subfolders divide the files into Mac and Win versions) To the best of my understanding Metacreations had a legal obligation to continue to support their products or ensure that they were supported. If nothing else they had a moral obligation to their past customers. But it seems that in the selling spree much of this has apparently been watered down or forgotten about. It may be that if former customers press them on this issue they will be directed to this ftp site, then again maybe they simply forgot to take this site down. However, do not waste any time, as the site may not be around for much longer. As to whether the Bryce 3.1 patches from the Metacreations ftp site will work with the full version of Bryce 3D (V3.0) being given away with 3Dworld Magazine, I don't know but I would guess yes. Perhaps someone can try this out and let all of us know. I have Bryce 4 already so I will not be installing. Finally to the best of my knowledge posting this information is perfectly legal. If not would the Mods please delete this. From what I can make out the files you will need to download are: For PC: b3d-31.zip (6.97MB), b3d-pre.exe (9.5MB), and possibly dxfimport_3_7_97.zip (41.8KB), and mscvrt.zip (130KB). I am not sure about the last two. For Mac: b3d-31.hqx (6.69), and b3d-pre.hqx (11.6MB). Again I am not sure if any of the other files are needed. Perhaps someone using a mac with the patch can advise. (all files are in zip format) STORM

Until they tell me Im not doing this legally I have the B3 and B4 patches at Brycetech in the "Brycetech Downloads" for windows too. Meta does not have to support previous releases...it can shut this server down today if it wants...I think the ftp server is up ONLY because they forgot it is. I suggest that everyone that owns b3 or b4 grab the updates and file them away somewhere... Bryce 4.1 by corel is due out and since its the first "patch" by corel..it may be full of holes...youd want to be able to fix the fix ;) BT
