I'm sure this has been asked before, and for that I apologize. Couldn't find anything in Tutorials or the forum. I've put together a character and now I want to create custom textures for the character. I have Poser4 and the free 3dPaint that came with it. What's the best method to create these textures. I've tried exporting the character as an OBJ. and then aquiring it, but everything seems too small and the texture never seems to work. Is there a good scaling factor that I should apply to the character before exporting, so that everthing works, or is there a really good tutorial that some one can point me at.

Export your character from Poser as an OBJ file. Download the excellent UVMapper and create a template. Then you can paint over this to create your texture map. Paul

heyas; you mean the painter 3d that came with p4? load your obj into uvmapper (make sure it has a good uvmap; if this is an obj you created, mess with that, then re-save the obj with new uv info), then select everything and put it into one group. save as a new obj (i usually use whatever-p3d.obj, so i know it is a single group thing for use in painter 3d.) acquire the p3d obj. it doesn't matter what size the model is, but it does ask you how big you want your view window to be to see it. put in 600x600 or whatever, if you have enough memory and screen room. keep in mind you can also zoom in to the obj in the viewport. this does not affect the size of your model. grab the... texture map window, i think it is, and click or double click on the texture slot to create or load a texture for your figure. if you're repainting a human, for example, you can load the original texture in and put it on your model. important: if you are using a poser texture, after you import the sucker, do orientation:flip vertical. that's pretty much it. if the texture is still too small for your needs, scale up the image size. you can paint on the 2d texture, or paint right on the model. be careful going over seams, the line will draw a big mess across the whole texture map 'til it gets to the next uv area.

I uninstalled Painter 3D because I could never make it work, but I think maybe you can just open the P4 texture maps and paint on them (I could be wrong). Try it, anyway, and see if it works. You might not even have to import the OBJ. I got too frustrated with that program (I bought it full-price, too). The tools were too confusing and I could never get it to do the things I wanted.
