By the way, I should note -- as I'm building this site, I'm also spending some spare time making a few freebies that will be given away ONLY on this site. B^)Siged up today site looks great!

Hey, all, I'm making a site. A 3D community site. I'm custon coding this site. This thing isn't using prepackaged PHP or ASP scripts -- it's using 100% custom code. That means that not only can I do all the things Renderosity and 3DCommune do (the only other 100% custom code 3D communities I know of, and don't even say PoserPros is, because I recognise those forums off sourceforge), I can do more. I have joining/memberhsip, forums, and basic galleries built. I'm working on the marketplace and free stuff next after this (starting with the Free Stuff). I've added some nifty features that you guys and gals'll probably like. Loads of image types can be uploaded to your gallery, not just GIF and JPEG (non-web images are converted automatically). Nothing ever complains about your image size being too big. If it's too big, the script resize it. Same is true of thumbnails, though if you want, rather then uploading a thumbnail, IE users can make a thumbnail directly on the site (sorry, I couldn't figure out Javcript to make it work in Netscape). Forums allow more types of attachment, and when you save/download them the original filename remains intact. There are a few other nifty bits about the forum system, including real message threading (as in, replies are tracked by reply to a message, not the entire thread). A few caveats: while I'm developing, the site is slower than it will be when I'm done. That's because some of the optimisations are hard to develop under (like mod_perl and pervascript). So while I work on things, I'm not doing those parts. So, for the time being, it goes about the same speed as Renderosity on average (hey, sorry Renderosity, but you know it's true B^). Second, some people do not like the brightness and orangeness of the site. When I launch it it will be darker in colour by default, and there will be several skins (not just colour changes, entire graphical skins!) available to choose from. But I'm not going to do that until everythig is working. Heck, I'm being nice by not making everythign ugly all over the site and doing the graphic design later B^) If you go into the leading-edge parts of the site -- the things I'm working on at the moment, there's a reasonable chance of a server error as I tweak something and make a typo. There's an even better chance of a page looking marginally different between refreshes due to me having modified something. Hopefully these changes in detail will generally be for the better. I invite you all to come take a look and experience the formation of another web community and be there first. I hope this web community will be around for some time to come. Lastly but not leastly, it's not brown. B^)
