is there a way to morph the radial or box light into a new shape other than ball or box? What I want is to morph a light into the shape of a great lighting bolt I have down loaded

There's no need to morph the light. All you need to do is give your lightning bolt a material with a high ambience. In the volume material preset library, there are some nice colored light materials. Choose one and change the color (in the diffusion and ambience) to whatever color/s you want your lightning bolt to be. Then place a radial light near the bolt and render away.
