Hiya, I posted this on the reg poser board, but thought maybe I should post it here. So, sorry for the repeat. I just made my first dress from scratch for Vickie. Its not too bad, I think. I don't think it will handle extreme posing, though. Now this being my first dress, I have some questions regarding UV Maps, textures, and getting it ready for the free stuff section. First off, I've never made my own textures, used UVMapper, and I haven't textured anything in Poser (as I don't do my renders in Poser). I popped the .obj into UVMapper and set it up as you see in the image. I then placed my fabric squares on the map. When I went to apply it, you can see it did not cover the figure (I did check off "texture changes apply to whole figure" and it made no difference). Is my map not big enough? My dress doesn't have individual parts listed in the "materials" window (just "preview"). I don't know how one does that, if one wanted to assign different materials to different parts. Is this necessary for the texture to work properly? If it does, how would I do this? Now for the next set of questions (thought I was done, huh ;) Do I have to do anything special to get this ready for you PC users other than convert the files .obj and .cr2 (including the now working - thanks to you guys! - map and tex in .jpg format) in MartinC's splendid MacConverter program. I'm not sure how to upload, but I saved some threads on that subject and will cross that bridge when I get this other stuff worked out. Thanks as always, ct

Hi Wynter!- You did save the model after you mapped it in UVMapper, didn't you? I don't know what you use for modeling, but with Max when you apply a material to the desired polygons it comes up in Poser as a material. I know you can also use the Poser group tool too, but that isn't so easy, you will miss stuff. I seem to recall any UVMapper regions come into Poser as materials, but I'm not sure about that. Tou don't actually need any materials, but it gives the user the option if say the sleeves are another materal they can make them transparent, or change color, without using transparency or texture maps. Incidently, the map size you save is only for the template, the actual map can be another size, even another aspect ratio, Poser will scale it to fit. PCs should have a OBJ file and a CR2, they should also have a RSR file that goes with the CR2 in the library, it contains the thumbnail pic, but they can work without the last.

Thanks for replying, Jim. I'm using Cinema 4D and as you can see, I'm on a Mac. I'm not sure about applying the materials in c4d, but if the maps can be any size, then why isn't poser adjusting this one to fit? As for an .rsr, Macs don't generate them, I believe the PCs will generate the .rsr the first time the new object is loaded. Thanks for the info, any help is always appreciated. ct BTW sorry about the image size which makes the viewer have to scroll to read the message.

You need to activate UVW mapping in C4D explicitly on a new object to make C4D do it. Othervise you can do it in UV Mapper. I have not really looked the the UV maps from C4D to see how good they are compared to UV Mapper output. You must maintain the aspect ratio of the maps. A 100 x 120 pixel map cam be blown up to 1000 x 1200 without a problem, but bad things will happen if you change it to 120 x 100 without redoing the model UVs. Kevin
