I'm about to get a new computer, and I want to do a clean install of Bryce 4. My current system has tons of materials that I downloaded over the ages and stuck haphazardly thoughout the categories in the materials library. I would like to start Bryce out fresh on the new PC, and selectively add the extra materials to the materials library with a little more organizational forethought this time. My question is, is there an easier way to do this other than manually export each of the extra mats (i.e., they didn't come with the Bryce CD) from the old computer and import them into the new one (i.e., is there some utility program that might do this, or some "batch file" process)?

You can highlight the files that are similar (say a group of water materials that go well together) and then export them. Give the file a name like oceanwaters.mat When you import them later, all however many will be there. Sarah

Hi Terry. Could you remove the drive from your current pc and put it in your new PC as a slave? if not just make a copy of your"Presets" folder in your Bryce direcory,zip it up and put it on a cd or zip drive , then after you install Bryce on your new pc just swap the presets folder . and there you go. I have done this a couple times when I reformatted my C;drive , I just copied the presets folder to my D;drive.Then replace it after I reformatted and re installed Bryce . Objects,materials ,skies, everything came back like it was never gone. even if you put your current drive in your new pc.Temporarily,it would be very helpfull in moving all your stuff to the new one. I think what I will do before getting rid of the old computer is visually compare the Bryce presets between the old and the newly loaded versions, highlight the presets that are not on the new version (i.e., ones that I obviously downloaded from the net) per Caligula's suggestion, then export/import them to the new version of Bryce in one category (perhaps "User"). (Just ashame that Bryce doesn't allow for creating new library categories.)

Something else that you might want to consider is this: go to www.wolfiesgate.com and get a copy of the bryce Librarian. It will export materials, obp, and Bryce 3 skies. It will even let you swap entire preset files out (I think while bryce is running. Don't have either here to check). It's been updated for Bryce 4 (sorta). He does say on his site that it'll work for B4, just won't handle the .BSK files ... :) HTH, John PS - from what I understand (reading the manual and talking to other users) the capability of custom folders was on the drawing board when the manual was sent to the printers but was scrapped when time constraints and managerial interference started to hit in a major way. Hopefully, Corel will pick this up and run with it for B5.

I checked out the Bryce Librarian program, and it looks like it will do the job. Question; there are two versions of the file - one if you already have something called Visual Basic Runtime files on your system, and one if you don't. I haven't a clue what this means with respect to which file should I use on my standard Win98 PC. Anyone know?

Basically, he's saying that you download the larger one if you haven't got one of his other programs loaded and the smaller if you have loaded on of the others. If you've loaded NOTHING that was written in VB6 (or VB6 itself), then get the version that has the runtimes in it. It'll save you a lot of hassle.

when ever i do a fresh install of bryce I just backup preset folder to another drive, actually I back it up there every couple of days. and after the install I simply replace the new with the old. I wish bryce had drag and drop libraies like a photoshop plugin folder. . . wouldn't that be nice. . .
