Hi all, FYI.... If you, like me, prefer to use Ulead Photoimpact instead of Photoshop or Painter, then you will be delighted by a wonderful tutorial on post-work using Photoimpact that has been written by Stephanie Baker-Thomas. It can be found at http://www.eastofthesun.com/pi8/postrender.htm. Enjoy !! regards, Andrew

Thanks for the link. Stephanie is a whiz and her tutes have always been a great resource. Strange as it may sound to some, I have Photoshop 7, Photo-Paint 11, Painter 8, yet I still find myself using PhotoImpact for a lot of stuff! I've always been a Ulead fan.

Glad to see some others who use PhotoImpact to, I have been using it since Vers3 and am up to Ver 8. It is a great program and does great postwork with all its tools. Mathman I just saw that Tutorial by Stephanie, and glad she is doing some now for Poser and PI. In fact her tutorials taught me how to use PhotoImpact over the many years, along with others. Her work has always been good and she writes terrific tutorials. Yah! and I thought I was in the minority. Jan

I use both PhotoImpact 5 and 6. The results I get from them please me and is easier and cheaper to use then PhotoShop. It has an easier way of making layers. Terribly underated. Mark

Hi all, Its really good to find other Photoimpact fans in the Poser community. I have PI8, and it really kicks butt. Andrew

Puntomaus ( ) posted Sun, 10 August 2003 at 3:42 AM

Hey, cool to see other PI users over here. I use it since version 3 and now I have PI8. And Mark is right, it's really underated - it has so many cool features and is easy to use.

I think there are many more than we think! I've been using PI for years, since Steph first introduced me to it and immediately fell in love with it and threw away PSP! Steph's tutorials will teach you everything you need to know about this wonderful program and her BB rocks! :) Irene

Hi there and it's good to see that there are others using PI with Poser. Thanks for the kind words. :)

Thanks - I use PhotoImpact a lot in my work - working with layers is so much easier than Photoshop and many simple tasks are easier to do. It does not have the power or flexibility of Photoshop, but for things like textues for Poser it is so much easier and faster to use.

mathman ( ) posted Sun, 10 August 2003 at 5:24 PM

When you say that it doesn't have the power or flexibility of Photoshop, can you give examples ? I've found that PI beats Photoshop in just about anything that I have given it to do ...

ronstuff ( ) posted Sun, 10 August 2003 at 7:18 PM

Didn't mean to sound argumentative about it - I use PI for 95% of my work and would highly recommend it - considering the price it is fantastic. I'm still glad that I have Photoshop because occasionally there are brushes, actions and styles available for Photoshop that just can't be duplicated quickly in PI - given the time, I think PI can do everything that Photoshop can, but the number of free add-ons is considerably less. And although PI theoretically supports Photoshop plug-ins, many of the more powerful ones won't work as well (if at all) in PI. Photoshop has more filter options and gives greater manual control of many features such as morphing (think Goo), sharpening, blur, stroking along a path etc. but it is less "automated" so that makes it more difficult to use - a double-edged sword. I would also agree that a newcomer can live without these advanced features, but eventually there might be a need for them. Another program that I really like and use more often than PS but not as often as PI is Painter - it can really make some stunning seamless textures as well as create curving patterned borders that follow the curvature of a template. Kind of like text along curves in PI, but with bitmaps (image hoses - tubes, whatever). I can't seem to get the same results in PS or PI, so that is when I use Painter. I would hate to have to do without any of them, but if I had to choose and have only ONE of them, it would be PhotoImpact without a doubt!

markk ( ) posted Mon, 11 August 2003 at 12:13 AM

Just goes to show there are more PI users out there. Pity there isn't a forum here at Renderosity. I for one would like to see some tuts and users sharing some tips. I know I would be Mark

:) Well, you can count me in. Pity, no one responded DarkElegance. I don't think I was at Renderosity then?? Mark

mathman ( ) posted Mon, 11 August 2003 at 1:56 AM

Yes, I would love to see a PI forum here at Renderosity as well. It has enough of a following to warrant one, I'm sure.

PointLady ( ) posted Mon, 11 August 2003 at 3:05 AM

Me too, I think PhotoImpact should have a forum too, there are many users, and there are many more people who use it in conjunction with Poser than posted replies here too. I know of several others. After all, not everyone uses PhotoShop and PSP as well as the others. They have got forums. A forum for PI would be a good idea for us to get together to discuss techniques and help each other in relation with Poser, and after all the other programs have their forums, why not PhotoImpact. Thanks Mathman for bring this topic up. Hey Renderosity, we have spoken, what about it? Jan

Acadie ( ) posted Mon, 11 August 2003 at 3:24 PM

Well this is sure of a surprise, I tought I was alone to use PI with Poser, and this is really neat to have some tut written for it.
To some of you that don't know, I'm a member of a PI user forum, here is the link to it. http://pircnet.com/ just click on To Pirc Bulletin Board at the top right, you only need to sign up to be a member, that's all.

I also have those software Paint Shop Pro, PhotoShop, Corel Draw and many more but since I discover Photo Impact, those other software are not on my pc anymore.
This would sure be fun to have a forum with Poser for PI user.

I use all kinds of graphics programs with Poser. The easiest for me is PhotoImpact... which I have been using for quite a while and absolutely love :)

waves Hi to Acadie nope you aren't alone using PI with Poser :) I do all the time and so does Marcie. I just haven't had the time to play lately. LOL

stephaniebt ( ) posted Mon, 11 August 2003 at 4:17 PM

I'd be interested in seeing a PI Poser forum here as well. The PhotoImpact Bulletin Board has PI and Poser users too, if you'd like to stop by and see us. :) http://pibb.infopop.cc/6/ubb.x?a=cfrm&s=91260413

mathman ( ) posted Mon, 11 August 2003 at 5:22 PM

I'll second that .... Stephanie's PhotoImpact Bulletin Board is well worth the visit. The people (all PI nuts !!) there are always friendly and helpful, and you'll be assured of a warm welcome.

I'm also a big time user of PI and a long time member of Stephanies PIBB. Steph is the recognized PI guru....her tutorials are wonderful and the books that she has written for PI are a must have. I use PI to create skin textures for my Poser peeps and pretty much all of my post work is done in PI. I know there are other 'rosity members who are long time members with Steph too so there is a wealth of experience to be found over there...hey Irene!!! smile I'd love to see a PI Forum on here and I'm sure, having seen all these posts that there are enough folks to support it. I'd vote for Steph for Moderator in a heartbeat. We couldn't have anyone better...with her BB boasting 1940 members and growing...she's the best there is. Skippy :) :)

Thank you Kym for the kind words. :) Every time me or my bb is mentioned in some quarters, there is a small-minded cult that has to try to trash me. It consists of people who were banned from my bb for similar antics displayed here, hijacking a thread for their own interests. It just shows the rest of the graphics world what happens if they don't like you. I've been putting up with for so long it rolls off my back. 'Nuff said. :D I'm not up for moderating another group, I have too much on my plate already. Instead of braying about my affiliations, I am writing and teaching about PI. But I would still be interested in a PI/Poser group and would happily participate, if that comes to pass. :)

Acadie ( ) posted Tue, 12 August 2003 at 8:47 AM

TO whom it may concern, I thing this thread is getting way out of line, myself by posting that there was a PI forum at the PBB to let know that there was a lots of PI user out there and an other one telling about Stephanie that is fine, I didn't know about the forum. That's super, more place to learn more. But now, enough of that, I read between line that there is a war between forums here, and this is not the place for it. Don't know what happen and don't won't to know. We are here for the use of Poser with PI. Lets keep it this way please. That would be great to share tips and tricks with those two programs and without plugin any business, base on friendship and fun way to learn more. How's that? what do you things everyone.

KymJ ( ) posted Tue, 12 August 2003 at 9:49 AM

sigh ...well it didn't take long did it .... Acadie, there is no war just some folks who get some kind of perverse pleasure from being spiteful and nasty and it seems that Jemima fits into that category rather well. A great reminder to me of how nice it is not to associate with her and her kind. Can we please return to the subject at hand and spare everyone the vitriol. Skippy...
