Hi everyone. I recently read some art articles (about time I did this, eh ?), specifically one that dabbled into the divine proportion (aka golden section) which many artist use to compose their work. I thought I could use this ageless proportion and I made myself a ruler with this scale (see image above). (yes that's really simple). The green section is 1.618034 times taller than the blue one. Together they can form the basis of a composition, or just check that your image is well balanced. How to use : install the pp2 anywhere you want in your pros library. Import it into Poser. Select it, then object>point at>Main camera (if you're planning to use the main camera for your final render that is). When you rotate your camera, it will do strange things but will always face the camera. Just adjust the rotation and translation dials to set it the way you want it. You can adjust all the other parameters, it will keep its golden proportion. It's such an odd item I thought it was better placed here in the forum rather than in the freestuff. I'd be eager to know if you find this useful or totally crap and, in the former case, what use you had for it. If anyone's interested, I plan to do some more of these. Here is the link to the original article (although some content seems to me errrr... debatable). http://evolutionoftruth.com/goldensection/goldsect.htm Another one, very simple. http://www.ewersarchitecture.com/golden_section.htm And another one, very complete (this page was already signaled in another thread, a dozen hundred threads below). http://www.mcs.surrey.ac.uk/Personal/R.Knott/Fibonacci/fib.html Hope this helps somehow. That's a nifty idea! Thanks!

Divine proportion is to composition what grammar is to writing; you can get some incredible effects by transgressing the rules, but you have to know how to work within them before you can effectively break them. This knickknack looks very cool and useful. Thanks! :-)

Wow that's really interesting compiler, thanks for the links. I had never heard of this (having wilfully suppressed the fibonacci sequence from my memory of maths at school :-p) I must do some experimenting with this!

Cool! Trying to do basically the same thing, I made a rectangular prop with the Square Prop and a transmapped gif of the Golden Section that I found online. Unfortunately, the dots in the transparent parts drove me nuts and I ended up trashing it. I've been thinking of trying again, this time with Cube Props morphed into long, thin rectangles and laid out like the diagrams, so that it would be truly transparent in the spaces between the 'sticks'....but I suck at modeling and am short of time right now. It would be great if someone with more skill than I have could make one.....Hint, hint ;) BTW, I also thought about doing it in Bryce with a symmetrical lattice and a pic of the Golden Section where the black and white have been reversed.

Interesting idea! Here's an alternate prop, sort of window-like.

Thanks to both Compiler and Ockham - more tools for the toolbox is always a good thing.
