We're having problems using the Mpeg2 playback component when running quicktime - there's no sound (Windows). Please let us know if you're having problems or if you are able to get sound.

Do you have the newest verson of the MPEG-2 playback component? According to Apple, it's required for compatibility with QuickTime 6.3. Is the MPEG-2 video encoded with AC3 audio? The playback component doesn't support that format. It also doesn't support transport streams.

Yes, we have the latest player 6.3 but there's no sound. We're not sure what audio it uses... is there a way to check? We tried vob from video tapes (created using nero express) We checked our PC which uses Avance Logic's AC97 mixer audio system. But I doubt if you played a movie trailer (vob), the PC would convert it from the original format to AC97 format. Nor do we believe all vobs are using AC3.

I ran a check on all the commercial DVDs I have and the program produced a text file which identified all the DVDs of having AC3 audio. So basically, apple's $20 mpeg2 playback component is USELESS!
