THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: (OF: Off-Forum) __ Tear this model apart, please

Hi. I know this isn't the right Forum for it (and I will post this even in the proper one), but I just wanted to hear the "family" opinion. The beauty (LOL) you see above is my first model ever with Cinema4D. And also my first model ever with modelling tools different from Bryce's. I know it sucks, but I want to hear your opinions about it. Mostly because after one night of very warm (temperature) spare time spent on it, I just *had* to show it off... :) Oboy, it won't be easy... S.

I totally skipped that one, Beanz! :) Maybe I should go back to basics before hyper-NURBSing my head off! :) S.

Doublecrash ( ) posted Thu, 14 August 2003 at 7:09 AM

yep, RR. It's a wonderful tool to have smooth models with a very low polycount.

catlin_mc ( ) posted Thu, 14 August 2003 at 7:10 AM

Put a nice velvet texture on it Stefano and I may take a seat. It could almost be the kind of soft, comfy, sofa's, you find in chill out rooms in clubs. So many people have sat on them that they seem to be melting into the floor. Or on the other hand it may look innocent but in actual fact is a man eating chair, ready to eat the unwary sitter. Keep up the good work dear, you'll get there in the end. 8) Catlin

agree with Catlin about the chill-out rooms. Try adding a zebra print :)

Thanx, people... I'm still fighting with all the hundreds modeling controls, so for the time being the velvety tex will have to wait: I haven't yet a clue about how the texturing works in C4D, but I'm studying :-) S.

Beats my C4D gummy bear. I'm still stuck on the 2nd tutorial for the extension cord. Peggy

Let me guess - it's a miniature piano for VERY simple tunes?

Slakker ( ) posted Thu, 14 August 2003 at 10:17 AM

I like it...but it looks like your cushions are too tall. I'd say either shorten them up, or drop them down farther into the couch. It is a couch, right?

Rochr ( ) posted Thu, 14 August 2003 at 10:20 AM

Aahhaa, another traitor i see... ;) Looks comfortable to me. Great start! I gave the Meissie(or whatever)-tut a try, (box modeling)but gave it up at the nose, when the bridge tool didnt work like in the tut... :( Still havent decided if im going to buy Cinema though. Going to give good old Lightwave another try first. :)

Oh yeah! Stefano rock on! Looks great for a first one! Hope to see it with textures! Don't leave bryce OK?

antevark ( ) posted Thu, 14 August 2003 at 2:18 PM

Another one defecting.... shakes head Oh well, the couch looks pretty good, just add tex when you figure out how... And Rochr, I'd stick with LW, if I were you. I love LightWave!

tresamie ( ) posted Thu, 14 August 2003 at 2:25 PM

Can you 'plump out' the back? Curve it out? Or maybe just add a few loose pillows, lol :)

Fractals will always amaze me!

Doublecrash ( ) posted Thu, 14 August 2003 at 6:16 PM

@Phantast LOL, you're right: it do look like a three-key toy piano, ehm... :) you can't even play "Frere Jacques" on a keyboard like that ;-) @ Alvin I can't leave Bryce :) and I won't. One can never truly be unfaithful to his first true love... @Rochr You tried the human head tut? Quite difficult to begin with... I haven't yet looked at it... @tresamie & slakker I'm reworking the model, lowering the seat-level and trying to make something more sofa-looking :)

SevenOfEleven ( ) posted Sun, 17 August 2003 at 9:27 PM

Beanzvision that picture with the sphere looks good. Have seen some cool pictures with just geometric primives. Doublecrash sofa looks cool, should see some of the weird furniture they make in the design magazines. Gonna try the box modeling method with Truespace, making faces using metaballs is kinda difficult. Wait till you see my Apathetic labs chars. Here is one face I made with metaballs http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/loth/a/w/aweaver/skullbatdisp.jpg.html

Rayraz ( ) posted Mon, 18 August 2003 at 3:29 AM

So far I've tried 2 ways of making a human head. One is by drawing curves and connecting them. It involves lot's of welding and lot's of tweaking at polygon level. The other method I tried was box modelling. with both methods making nose, mouth and ears is the most difficult. A human head is one of the most tricky objects to make. Making furniture is one of the best ways to get to grips with the modelling tools.
