Subject: Just wondering....

I thought I remember there being a rule about not posting your picture in the gallery before....something, lol. I forget weither the deal was something about WIP's on these boards, or something I just can't remember. I remember something along these lines being mentioned at one time or another...Anyway, the whole point of this is that I usually don't put challenge pictures in my gallery, or if I do, I wait after the challenge. But I like my challenge picture so much, I just want to throw it in my gallery right now. Its just I remember this being some sort of 'unwritten rule'. Am I imagining things?

I think that you cannot use an already made image for the challenge. If you post your image as a challenge entry and also in the gallery then I think its ok that way. They just don't want people saying oh I made an image 6 months ago that fits the challenge category. Challenges are just for fun and learning and can also be put up in the gallery before voting, at least I think that I have seen that done. In some cases people have linked to a higher Res gallery image as their entry. HTH (and hope I'm not wrong) :-D

You also might be remembering someone mention not to upload your entry to the gallery, meaning they won't look for your entry in the gallery to place on the voting page. I've always posted my challenge pics in the gallery.

It was just going through my head, but I couldnt remember the specifics of it. Im still pretty sure I read something at some time that someone didnt want both to be presented at the same time. Maybe to avoid building some sort of fan-base before the end actually begins? A sort of vote-for-me campaign I guess, lol.

From the monthly challenge rules (Link is on the Forum header): "All entries will be new images created originally for the Challenge, please do not post any old works (we want you to stay creative)." This is probably what you are thinking about, Sparr.

So it's ok to post something in the gallery as well as the challenge at the same time? I mean, theres nothing really stopping me, I just though there was some unwritted rule about it.

No unwritten rule, its been done many a time, like I said before some people put larger, better resolution images in the gallery. We are limited to size in what we can post in the forum. With the Renderosity contests there are strict rules against having anything posted anywhere else. But this is just a fun challenge.

Yeah Ang is right, for example, I'm waiting for AgentSmith to approve and post my entry right now, and as soon as it goes up in the Challenge Gallery, the higher res version will go up in the Bryce Gallery here.

This is not my "second childhood". I'm not finished with the first one yet.

The only competition I know of that has the rule of not posting to the gallery before the contest is over is for the magazine cover contest. They don't want a fan base built up for that one, and I know all about that rule from personal e4xperience. Catlin
