Subject: Obj Model Texturing Problem

I'm just starting to build 3D Props for myself and getting my head round UVMapping, textures, materials etc However I have problem I can't undestand.

I have imported a model into Poser(as .obj) that's been UV Mapped and applied a texture, yet in the poser window the model is show without the texture (BTW Document style & Element style both set to Texture Shaded), however when I render the scene the texture is rendered perfectly.

Can anyone shed light on what might be causing this?

Which version of Poser are you using? Poser 5's document window will preview textures applied to the Diffuse_Color channel, but not Alternate_Diffuse, Ambient_Color, or other channels.

just adding my interest on this problem to nikolai's. I'm having the same issue with textures. I have a model made up of several solids and surfaces grouped into a single obj. upon import the uv directions on some of the faces are correct and others not. I went so far back as to breakdown the model to flip the individual face directions. AGGGGGGGGHHHHH now when I import it back into poser as indivual objects they are placed in radom order at great distances from one another, even though they are ajacent to one another prior in the modeling package

Nikolai, It would help to know what kind of model this is. Is it human, furniture or what? Does it have it's own material(s)? I can't imagine what could be causing this to happen, The only thing I can suggest is that you export the obj file directly from poser with all options UNCHECKED, make a simple box map in uv mapper, then re-import it, again with all options UNchecked. If it's mapped, it must show the texture. Simple as that. HOWdie, If you right-click and save the image I've posted, you can use it to check uv mapping in poser. As you can see, the squares are numbered. Apply it as a texture in poser, and you should be able to see if anything's backwards or wrong with the mapping. Again, it depends on the type of object. I made this grid for walls and furniture. You may need another type of grid, but it's easy to make one. mac

PS Steve Cox's UV Mapping forum is another good place to get info. mac
