Poser Technical F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 04 2:47 am)
Welcome to the Poser Technical Forum.
Where computer nerds can Pull out their slide rules and not get laughed at. Pocket protectors are not required. ;-)
This is the place you come to ask questions and share new ideas about using the internal file structure of Poser to push the program past it's normal limits.
New users are encouraged to read the FAQ sections here and on the Poser forum before asking questions.
Are you reading across a network? Are all your poser assets on one drive? Also, depending on your fragmenting of your texture dir the textured preview can be real slower. Poser does a search for a texture if it does not find it in the dir pointed to in the material setting in your file. Thsi can take quite a while depending on how moved around everything is in your texture dir. Also turn off the fancy windows crap in XP. That'll speed you up. Right click on My Computer, select properties->advanced->performance then select for speed. That removes those rounded window boxes and slow scrolling menus and will give you a noticable speed boost. Also, try switching video modes. This maybe voodoo but I noticed P5 doesn't like either 16bit or 32bit video modes, I can't remember which.
I don't have any "fancy crap" ^_^ running in XP. turned it all off (not that it gave much IMHO) I have all my Poser stuff on one drive (E:) (no poser-unrelated stuff going there) dunno what you mean with textures.. I normally just open poser and then open save-files if I want to.. (or else I just start right on making something new)

I use an AMD athlon 1,4 Ghz processor with 768 MB RAM. I have two Hdd's (120GB+80GB) (partitioned to pieces. LOL) I realised that if I reinstall P4 and PP I get a fast startup.. once.. and then it slows down and if I click anywhere else on the screen, Poser refuses to respond at all. (Poser screen goes blank) I use Win XP Pro. Am I the only one with this problem? anyone have any ideas how to help this so I can have a faster start-up.
