Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 13 7:03 am)
here's what I do for hair props 1) Bring in a character (what ever base figure the hair is for) and use the joint parameters window and click on zero figure to put her/him in that default arms out position. Also make sure the body is at 0,0 on the x and z axis. You may also have to turn off IK on the legs. This makes it far easier to pose the hair since all her joints are at 0 rotation. 2) Import the hair prop. I select the "center" option and the "on floor" option along with "make normals consistant" option. I also use the scale option and scale the hair to be 7 to 10% of the human. 3) The hair will appear at the figure's feet. Move it up the y axis with the dial till its near the head. 4) switch to the head camera and pose, scale, turn or whatever to get the hair exactly where you want it. 5) Now, bring up the hair's property dialog by hitting ctrl-i and change the name to "hair" without the quotes. Then click on the set parent button and parent it to the head. 6) Now open the hair menu and, while the hair is the active object, click the plus. It should ask you for a name so name it and add it to the menu. I think the important thing is the hair must be parented to the head, it must be the hilighted/active/selected object and it should be named hair. I think poser uses the name to replace the hair if other hair is swapped in. people are temtped to use this for things like masks, hoods etc but Poser but hair files have commands to replace existing hair objects which can be annoying if you're trying to put a mask on a character with hair. Instead, you can make a smart prop and a folder for these special items. Hope this helps.
