Zhann, that virus fakes the "from" attribute. So it sends mail from other PCs claiming that actually you send it. Even if your machine isn't infected. It doesn't matter if your PC is infected or not. Greets, Jimi - who gets about 600-800 mails/ day with that f*cking virus, even with my own name in that "from" part...

I got a few of these...DETAILS.PIF and YOUR_DETAILS.PIF...they were returned by the postmaster and thus not sent on to my address book contents.....I've run McFEE several times and I think that may have solved it from my end.....(crosses fingers)

Well, the virus is not on my computer, and my mailbox is filling up steadily with this crap, so I set my MSN filter to delete anything with an attachment and anything with returned mail, undeliverable mail, your application, my details, etc ad infinitum....btw, even after Sept 10, the virus will continue to send out queries. Time for a cleansing spell. The person(s) who created this virus and all the subsquent variants shall be plagued with it for eternity....

A spell of reflection seems appropriate - but don't you have to know the person that sent it, and as it's a virus rather than a spell would it work? I heard on the radio that microsoft announced the vurnerability on a tech foreum somewhere just before all thes viruses poped up. perhaps they should have just quietly put out a patch instead.

Incarnadine ( ) posted Tue, 26 August 2003 at 10:42 AM

They did release a patch for the Remote Procedure Call exploit. About half of the corp's didn't put it in! Actually aside from sloppy coding allowing it in the first place, M$ acted responsible this time. (Bloody hell, I'm defending the evil empire...!)

Pass no temptation lightly by, for one never knows when it may pass again!

Zhann ( ) posted Tue, 26 August 2003 at 12:38 PM

A cleansing spell doesn't require you know the person offending, it just keeps whatever nasties out there away and eliminates anything that gets close...a reflection spell however, to reflect back on those who mean to do harm, well, what goes around comes around, so they'll get theirs soon enough, I wouldn't be surprised if the culprits lost their computers to a virus/worm......what's the addage, 'you reap whatever you sow'....8)

Could you tell me how to cast a reflection spell Zhann? There are folks I know who could be doing with a dose of karma. 8) Catlin

I have switched over to web based mail from my isp until things clear up. Diane
