Subject: Who killed the Product Showcase forum?

Mariamus ( ) posted Sat, 20 September 2003 at 6:02 PM · edited Tue, 04 February 2025 at 9:47 PM

I've been posting there a few times about my newest project, but there aren't really anyone there to answer the posts... maybe all you lurkers here should run over to the product showcase forum and take a look at what people are saying/showing.. and perhaps comment on it.. hint hint :)

I have a feeling a lot of people are avoiding image-heavy forums like Product Showcase. Rosity's better than it was, but it's still running slower than molasses flowing uphill in January. :-(

Mariamus ( ) posted Sat, 20 September 2003 at 6:10 PM

which is too bad.. cause there are a lot of good things to look at in that forum :-/ lets just hope it'll get better with the speed soon O_O

I think maybe if you had said you had a Koshini item in the subject heading, it might have gotten more notice. I don't have Koshini so that's why I didn't comment. But I agree...there's a lot of good stuff in the forum. I love crusing through.

LOL randym Get dsl, things seem to load up pretty quickly for me now that I got it. Well most times that is.

Mariamus ( ) posted Sat, 20 September 2003 at 6:16 PM

Maybe you're right Dialyn ^_^ should have thought of that! LOL

randym77 ( ) posted Sat, 20 September 2003 at 6:17 PM

I have DSL. I still get a 404 sometimes (that goes away if I hit reload a couple of times). Sometimes it's pretty fast here, but often, it's really, really, reeeeeally slow. Seems to be intermittent, but frequent enough to be annoying. The galleries are especially bad. I've given up looking at them. It's only been in the past couple of weeks that I've seen this problem with Rosity. So I don't think it's my connection that's the problem.

Mariamus ( ) posted Sat, 20 September 2003 at 6:21 PM

I know what you mean randym. sometimes I can't get into the site or it takes minutes to load a site.. :-P they should do something about it soon, or there will be a riot!

nickedshield ( ) posted Sat, 20 September 2003 at 8:31 PM

That's why when I get the urge to splurge I surf the marketplace. After a page or, maybe two, loading very slow the urge passes and my credit card is safe.

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

This site is agonizingly slow to go from page to page. I have dsl and that isn't the problem. It has gotten so bad that I've switched from playing Free Cell while the page loads to playing Text Twist (2 minute time limit)... and sometimes I get a second set-up there while waiting and waiting. Meanwhile, under the "if you can't say anything nice about a product" rule... I try very hard not to comment upon the sickening sweet cartoonish figures which have overloaded the Forum. Times are harsh and tense, and people do need to escape into the safe pastel worlds of childhood. I wish that people would spend some of that creative energy making clothing and textures for the other figures... but as long as you are being creative and happy and finding a market, who am I to complain. The product showcase is the first place I check here and I do so daily. I don't always comment, but do enjoy seeing pending products and have made a lot of purchases as a result of the previews. I don't have Koshini either :)

Lately I even have trouble accessing Rosity from school on a T1 line. Form home (on dial up) I wouldn't even attempt the PSF!

dirk5027 ( ) posted Sun, 21 September 2003 at 6:49 AM

yep gotta agree, if this place wasn't so slow, everyone would click around more, but to wait forever to get to the product showcase forum just isn't worth the wait.

dialyn ( ) posted Sun, 21 September 2003 at 11:11 AM

Actually, I don't find it any slower to click into the Product Showplace forum....it's about the same as all the forums right now. Whatever wait there is worth it to me (and I can only speak for myself) because there has some really nice items announced there recently and I love seeing promos for new things coming up. I am not a shopper in the real world but I'm an addict virtually speaking.

randym77 ( ) posted Sun, 21 September 2003 at 12:09 PM

The only reason Product Showcase is slower is because it's so graphics heavy. The merchants often post not just one, but several large images when they post there. I mean, that's kind of the point of Product Showcase. :-) While many of the threads here have no images at all, and when there are pics, they tend to be smaller. Has anyone heard why they're having such bandwidth problems?I can't believe a script kiddie with a bulk downloading program can really be the cause of so much havoc.

Mariamus ( ) posted Sun, 21 September 2003 at 1:50 PM

what script kiddie?

Mariamus ( ) posted Sun, 21 September 2003 at 4:37 PM

hmmm..... where did I put my rifle? looks around

randym77 ( ) posted Sun, 21 September 2003 at 4:44 PM

Supposedly, the reason for the recent bandwidth problems is that someone keeps trying to download the entire Renderosity site, galleries included, to view offline. Perhaps not realizing how large a site it really is. They keep blocking him, but he keeps coming back.

randym77 ( ) posted Sun, 21 September 2003 at 5:14 PM

Oh, man. Rosity's being even weirder now. It's placed your reply before the post you were replying to. I notice the same thing is happening in other threads, too. That's going to make trying to follow threads interesting....

Mariamus ( ) posted Sun, 21 September 2003 at 5:15 PM

You noticed that too.. I was going crosseyed about it.. we have a time-twister here ^_^

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Mon, 22 September 2003 at 3:10 AM

It's a glitch in the matrix... And we all know what THAT means :o/

I think it is all that mesh warping software out there. Someone has gotten hold of the time mesh and been playing with it. It was bound to happen.
