Subject: Pro Pack / Max Plugin -- Help?

Gorodin ( ) posted Fri, 26 September 2003 at 6:53 PM ยท edited Thu, 25 July 2024 at 12:54 PM

I just installed and updated the Pro Pack. I am trying to install the MAX plugins, but the installer tells me that it cannot find a legit copy of MAX. What's going on? I am running MAX 4.2. Everything should be fine. Could it have something to do with Poser and MAX being installed on different volumes? I am running out of ideas...

Is the 3DS Max copy you are using a demo? If so, this could be the problem.

No, I have the full version, bought and paid for.

I wonder if it doesn't like V 4.2 - I ran the PP with MAX 3.1 with no problems. PP flat out won't work with 5.1, but I upgraded from MAX 3.1 straight to 5.1 and never dealt with 4.2...

Hannah gave me an excellent tip that worked! Apparently, the installer needs to be run from inside the MAX folder. It worked sure enough, but now my poser files are not being read in properly... Help?

Make sure you remove any Poser Props from the original PZ3 file. One of the props, objects in your PZ3 are incompatible w Max. Remove various parts to figure it out.

I don't mean anything from the Props folder necessarily- I mean basic shapes Poser comes with (cube, plane, sphere/ball) aren't allowed usually. Props that originate from standard formats- 3ds, obj, etc work fine.

Oh- & I don't totaly agree Max 5 doesn't import PP/PZ3 files. It does have some difficulty with transparency & bump maps especially - & some diffuse maps, but the animation seems fine. It only takes 10 min to remap a figure (the first time- much less subsequent times). IMO, this is still an enormous time savings. regards, Pack

Okay, I got anpother good tip that fixed that last problem. As soon as you choose the file to load, immediately click the "create" button under keyboard create, and it will work.
