Subject: JamStudio vrs. Wacom Tablet...??

jabbiati ( ) posted Thu, 02 October 2003 at 7:32 AM · edited Tue, 05 November 2024 at 1:54 PM

Hi all! I just bought the JamStudio tablet. I've never used one before, so I have nothing to compare it to. It was a quick, cheap alternative so I just grabbed it... However, it seems like I have to apply a LOT of pressure on the tip of the pen to get it to give me a fully solid line. Not very comfortable or easy to control. Is the Wacom like this too? Is this the nature of tablet pens, or is the JamStudio just a cheap piece of $&&&????? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!!! :-) Jim

On a wacom, there's an option to set your pen pressure the way you like. I'm not sure about any other tablet, since wacom is the only one I've used thus far. However, as for your question, no.. I don't have to press really hard to get it to give me the lines I want. I adjust mine to a more firm level and it works just fine for me.

The JamStudio has a setting... I set it to the lightest pressure and I still have to press down VERY FIRMLY to get the darkest line possible.... Sounds like I'll have to get a Wacom.

I use a Trust Tablet - that also lets you set the pen pressure - area use of Tablet ect... What sort of price was you looking to pay? I purchased the largest Trust Tablet for 72.00 - however there is a smaller one for around 59.00 Regards, Bushj

I bought the Jamstudio for $17 plus shipping. Cheap enough to give it a try... though I don't have a baseline to compare it to. It's 7.5 x 5 inches which seems big enough, but I don't like the lack of sensitivity... I'd pay up to $80 or so for something better.

Go ahead and break down with 100 and get a wacom. Trust me, it'll be worth it to you in the end. :) They may even be less expensive than that now, I can't remember.

There are a bunch of version Wacoms... which one? Anyone in that price range?

Crasher ( ) posted Thu, 02 October 2003 at 11:49 AM

Mine is a Wacom Graphire 2. I think the smallest one is around 100 US dollars. Look at Amazon, that's where my first one came from.

DanaanD ( ) posted Thu, 02 October 2003 at 3:31 PM

well Graphire 2's are running about $80 US if you can find one...I was at their site and they aren't selling the the graphire 2's from there anymore because of the new Graphire 3's that have come out,,but the 3's are running about $100 US. and I will say a Wacom at least for me is the best way to go,,,Ihave a graphire 2 and totally love it.

Are there any settings in Photoshop that effect the tablet?

Cookienose ( ) posted Fri, 03 October 2003 at 10:05 AM

I paid $1 for a JamStudio tablet (from ebay to test what Jamstudio was like) and that was $1 too much. You are much better off paying more, but getting a much better and more reliable tablet.

yes there are settings.. if you make your own brush and mae the setting to fade in 200 steps thwe presure and rotation information may not translate.
