THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Negativity, Drama, and Melodrama.

I had, a few years back, the opportunity to read an excellent set of books by Stephen Donaldson, in which he pointed out to my suburbanite consciousness the difference between literary drama and melodrama. Structurally, drama is when there are three main roles : The Hero, the Villain, and the Victim. The hero saves the victim from the villain. It's the American way. Melodrama is similar : there are still a Hero, a Villain, and a Victim. Only the three CHANGE roles. The Villain takes on Hero-like aspects, or takes on the pain as the role of Victim. The Victim rises above his pain and either projects it or redirects it. The Hero, and it is often true, can become malevolent or pathetic, as the case may be... No need for personal attacks here, my friends. Harness your angst for your artwork, or better yet, to force necessary change in the REAL world. If you THINK you're the hero, you're probably not. If you think you're being a victim, you most certainly are. And if you think you're being the bad-guy, the Villain.... Check my profile pic sometime. I am the Storm... Please quit arguing and slaying each other with text, it's unimportant in the face of our desire to subject the world to our wonderful artwork! We can ALL be great artists without having to be BETTER than anyone else, there is enough room in this world for many, many CGI masters... May you all find water and shade.

Thank you Shadowdragonlord, I am trying desparately to stay out of the controversy, I hate to see anyone smear anyone else's talents. I too wish the bickering would end. You make an excellent point. Ang

I think what PJF and I have going back and forth is more of a friendly spar and less of an all out battle. We've only really been skinning each other's knees.

We need some conflict every once and a while. There are boards dedicated to flames and rants, it's actually quite fun, so long as you know that the other person can defend themselves.

LOL, and only because I must yield to your logic. Thanks Jared.

A forum by definition is an exchange of ideas. Sometimes there will be disagreements about those ideas, actually a good thing, it clears the air. It would now seem to be winding down, as it has pretty much run its course. I was trying to deflate the debate (hey, that rhymes!) with a little pic, myself. Cover debate: R.I.P. At least until the next cover is chosen. :^)

This is not my "second childhood". I'm not finished with the first one yet.

Me too, Jen! I've had enough of Sturm und Drang and controversy! Life is too short, let's go make some art.
