Does it work in Firefly? For $18 I want a decent render. And not one of Neftis's other M3 hair props can use FireFly, neither can Yann hair and, I suspect though haven't tried, Very French Hair. Emily

Hello, I wanted to post here in the technical about the barbarian hair. As some people already know, some of my hair CANNOT render in firefly renderer, only the poser 4 renderer would render correctly. This is due to the huge ammount of polys that are necessary to make the hair detailing.(it's my technique, I am not talkinf for others) On the other hand, you will be able to render the barbarian hair in poser 5 Firefly because I decided to cut in the geometrie by utilizing the skinScalp that is already set on M3 or V3.(I only created a front cap for the Bhair.) So if you see some pokes when rendering, this is not an ACTUAL error with the hair, you have to simply go to your surface editor and make a base color for the hair.Easy and very fast to setup, plus it allows a nice render in firefly renderer. Here is a picture to show you how it is... http://www.geocities.com/nephftys/3B.jpg I hope you enjoy my products and I wish you all happy rendering!!!

Cassidy conducted a few experiments, and managed to "fix" the Mihai hair so it would render in Firefly.

I haven't had trouble rendering Neftis' hair with Firefly. I think you just have to have a fairly new, high-powered computer. I don't know if I'd want to have an entire army of men with Neftis hair, but one or two in a scene seem to be okay, at least on my system. (Pentium 2.8 GHz, 1.5 Gb RAM)

Yann hair brought my 3.2G Alienware laptop to a halt even with 2G of memory. I might try the grouping fix though I've never fooled with that thingey. It's great hair, I want to use it. Emily

And yet, people have found that reducing the size of the texture maps allows the hair to render even on older machines. To me, that suggests the problem isn't with the model, or with the way Firefly sees the model, but a memory issue.

P.S. I do sometimes have to tinker with my Firefly settings to get Neftis hair to render. (See #14 in the attached link.) In particular, reducing the bucket size really helps, without reducing the quality of the image. A low bucket size - like, 8 or 16 - results in a really long render time, but reduces the risk of crashing.

FireFLAW has a huge memory leak issue which CL has yet to fix, but here's to hoping they do. Also, ask yourself if you REALLY NEED to use Fireflaw. I avoid it like the plague, and only use it when I absolutely have to. The P4 renderer will still render most procedural textures amazingly enough, so you only need it if you are doing real reflections or P5 hair, etc. -Tim
