Subject: Renderositycoupon for Zygote-No good?

Eric Walters ( ) posted Sat, 05 August 2000 at 12:17 PM · edited Thu, 21 November 2024 at 10:38 AM

Howdy The coupon was supposed to be good-"through August 5th" I tried it about 1 hour INTO Aug5th and it said "Coupon Expired"! Whussup with that! Eric

scrandall ( ) posted Sat, 05 August 2000 at 12:24 PM

I got back from vacation and saw the email for the first time this morning. I guess through means "to" ... sigh ... I ended up not buying...

diana ( ) posted Sat, 05 August 2000 at 12:25 PM

I tried it at 11:00 AM CDT, after paying bills to see if I could afford something this week, got me a nice little order there ready to checkout (store was slower than molasses this morning and that took some time!) and it says it is expired but August 5th is not through... not even as I type is it "through".

diana ( ) posted Sat, 05 August 2000 at 12:36 PM

scrandall, I didn't buy anything either, I emailed Zygote about it instead. I'm not going to walk away from it either, it said "through" and that is inclusive of the 5th. If I work Monday through Friday, I'm not off on Friday, believe me. ;-) It would help to be more specific in their offers like offer begins 12:00AM Central Daylight Savings Time Tuesday August 1, 2000 and ends at 11:59PM Central Daylight Savings Time, Saturday August 5, 2000. No arguments on through, to, etc. Since we are all over the place on time zones, one man's August 5th is not the same as anothers so this would make it much easier to deal with.

Eric Walters ( ) posted Sat, 05 August 2000 at 1:09 PM

Crandall and Diana Absolutely! Even if Zygote is in the Eastern US, 1AM pacific is 4AM Eastern Time. As far as I know, "Through August 5th" MEANS all day-thats pretty unambiguous English. If it read "to August 5th" that would imply that it ends when Aug 4th ends. Annoyed and Zygote Dragonless, Eric

wyrwulf ( ) posted Sat, 05 August 2000 at 1:11 PM

I might as well add myself to this list. I have taken advantage of past Zygote coupons on the last day with no problems. I also have a long list of "I wants" that I have been waiting for a discount before buying.

Eric Walters ( ) posted Sat, 05 August 2000 at 1:17 PM

According to US law-AND good customer relationship policy-they need to honor the expressed advertisement- 1AM pacific time (when I tried) is 4AM Eastern time-that is still quite early. "Through August 5th" means from the beggining to the end-thats unambigous English... IT could well be an unintentional error-either in the notice or the Javascript but I do belive they need to honor it. I emailed them at 1:30AM pacific time (US) I would suggest that anyone else who runs into this do the same-so they can show some good will in the matter. I have had some dealings with Zygote in the past-all positive-I suspect this was an untintended error. Eric Walters

I second what Eric Walters says about e-mailing Zygote. They are a good company, and will likely honor the coupon. I don't think there is anyone there on the weekend, so there probably won't be a response before Monday.

diana ( ) posted Sat, 05 August 2000 at 1:36 PM

Yep, I'd say emailing them would be a good idea Eric, if only to prove you tried to complete the order on the given day and the store didn't cooperate. I did email them this morning and sent a screenshot of my order with the coupon expired showing. Zygote has been more than fair to me when things have gone awry in the past so I'm confident they'll recognize the problem and handle it appropriately.

arcady ( ) posted Sat, 05 August 2000 at 1:44 PM

$15 difference on my order. I'm going to place it, but email them. By placing it they'll have proof that I did it in the time during the coupon. Hopefully they'll honor it but I have mixed feelings on how I'll respond if they don't. The very last thing I want to do is alienate them from our community. I want to hope that this won't be the last time there's a renderosity deal. I think someone activated the panther change a day too early. And in so doing it canceled the older deal. It's probably an accident and I do know that 90% of the things on my current order were never meant to be sold during the time of the renderosity deal...

Truth has no value without backing by unfounded belief.

I entered in my renderosity coupon anyway. Hopefully that will save in their database as somone attempting an invalid coupon. So they'll know I tried.

Hmmn Diana-I like that idea about the screenshot-also the email has a time stamp on it. Arcady-I think you are correct about the Panther-I had a big enough order in mind that I am going to wait and see though... Eric

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Sat, 05 August 2000 at 2:02 PM

Well I didn't realize the date thing so was out of luck anyway .. skimmed the message. Got used to my other ones being good for a while .. Oops

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Sat, 05 August 2000 at 2:10 PM

Plus I was, admitedly, waiting for them to post something new. Have most of what I want already but the Panther would have been cool. Just was posted to late to take advantage. Oh well

picnic ( ) posted Sat, 05 August 2000 at 4:44 PM

I just got the email for the panther today. Just looked--the panther coupon is good until Aug. 18. Its for only the panther though--so, Ghost, if you want the panther (which I do--I didn't use my Renderosity coupon this time--I considered the rhino but not this time), looks like there's still time for that. Its 30% off. Diane B

Tandi ( ) posted Sat, 05 August 2000 at 5:01 PM

Hi everyone, My name is Tandi and I am Zygote's Online Store Manager. As such, I create all the coupons and gift certificates for the store. There was a slight mix-up but the renerosity coupon is supposed to be good through August 5th (today). I have re-set the expiration date to midnight August 7th MST. This should account for the diffence in time zones (since today is already over for some people). For those people who ordered items already and did not receive the discount please contact either Doug or Eric here at Zygote to straighten your orders out. Their email addresses are: eallen@zygote.com and doug@zygote.com I apologize for the mix-up. Thank you Tandi Zygote Media Group

wyrwulf ( ) posted Sat, 05 August 2000 at 7:49 PM

Thank you, Tandi. I knew that it would be taken care of. In my opinion, Zygote has the best customer service I have seen in a long time.

diana ( ) posted Sat, 05 August 2000 at 10:32 PM

Thanks for your help Tandi, I'm going shopping again!

casamerica ( ) posted Sat, 05 August 2000 at 10:57 PM

And once again, Zygote demonstrates how to take care of your customers. I love doing business with these folks. Thanks for dropping in and taking care of the problem, Tandi. Tho I did not incur the problem since I had already used my coupon, I appreciate the fact that you quickly alleviated the problem. Wyrwulf is right - "Best customer service I have seen in a long time." Now I have to go buy a cat... a big cat.

Thanks for your attention Tandi! Might have to go Dragon Shopping... Eric Walters

Goodness. Those folk at Zygote are good at what they do.

Terry Mitchell ( ) posted Mon, 07 August 2000 at 1:09 PM

Hmmm, it's about 1:05 PM CST on August 7 right now in(Chicago), yet trying to place a "last minute" order using the coupon, I get the "coupon expired" message. I assumed "midnight August 7 MST" meant midnight tonight, Mountain Standard Time (i.e., one hour earliere than CST). Did I make a stupid booboo, or should I have still been able to place the coupon order?
