Subject: cannot access homepage or gallery- also opinion/suggestion re new defaults.

Gini ( ) posted Tue, 28 October 2003 at 5:07 AM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 8:21 AM

I'm on a Mac using the Safari browser. For the last two days I can only access both my gallery and homepage through comment e-bots . And even loading your front page is unbelievably slow. I can't access anything except forums that way either and also really slowly . What's going on now ? I haven't been having any problems before now . Other sites load like lightning so it isn't my browser .

Also- in regards to the recent nudity issues and wishing to make the site 'more professional' - I do understand all that and how you can't please all of the people all of the time. However, rather unbelievably ,in the last week two film producer/writers here in the UK have wanted to see my recent work with a view to using me as an illustrator and I have directed them to my gallery but I doubt as people want instant results that they will bother to take the time to register, log in then go to their profile page and change the nudity settings even though what they are interested in is exactly the images I post with nudity ! So the new default setting sure isn't helping this professional.

And yes, I suppose the answer is to set up my own website but quite frankly I have neither the time,, or know-how to do such a thing right now and have relied on my gallery here to be the on-line portfolio I occasionally need.

So here is a suggestion : Could there not be some way, for fee paying( ! ) members perhaps, that outsiders, if given a special link or something, could access an individuals gallery without all this default nudity-off rigamarole ? As it stands people won't even know 2/3rds of my gallery is missing as nudity marked images don't show up as even a blank space now, do they ? That hardly looks professional in my eyes nor I suspect will it to such people as I've recently directed to my gallery here for lack of an alternative.

I repeat, I do understand the issues behind the recent changes and until now I haven't aired my views on this subject but as it now stands I can only use my gallery here as a hobby site and think that is a shame and wished to say so.

Non-members can view your gallery without registering if you give them one of the links that has your username included in the url (like this one).

Hi Varian- I know about the direct link, thank you, but if I give it to people who are not members even though it will take them to my gallery directly won't they be treated as 'visitor' with the new default nudity-off settings since they have no cookies if you see what I mean ? Don't the cookies hold your site identity ? I'm confused by this . Will they see everything in my gallery ? If the answer is 'yes' then I am happy

I think visitors can see nudity images when they are going directly to your gallery (as opposed to coming in the front door and browsing). I can't swear to it, though. Maybe Asher will be able to explaing it. :)

Please can you provide me with a conclusive answer to my question about if with a direct link to gallery is nudity visible for the visitor ? It is rather making the difference between keeping my gallery here active or having to investigate alternatives. Thank you

Hi Gini

I know this can be very confusing - hopefully the screen grab will help :)

  1. The only way for visitors to view your Renderosity Gallery "without" becoming a Renderosity members, is to send them the following URL [to view your the whole gallery]:

http://www.renderosity.com/gallery.ez?ByArtist=Yes&Artist=Gini

OR

You can send them invidivual Links to specific images - For example:

http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=303990&Start=19&Artist=Gini&ByArtist=Yes

  1. The Important Thing to Remember is that the URL's Have to contain your Nick". In other words, you can not click the "send a friend a link to this image," because that link will NOT have your nick in the URL.

  2. All visitors will be able to see All of your images! That includes the ones with nudity.

  3. If you only wish visitors to view the images that do not contain nudity. You can just send your visitor links to specific images in your Rosity Gallery [as described above - making sure the image URL contains your nick]- with a note that other images within your gallery contain nude images.

  4. Of course, your visitors are always welcome to become a Renderosity members, and they can, with the option of engaging the no nudity button, decide if they would wish to view or not to view nudity.

Hope this helps a little - Get back to me if you need further information :)

Almost forgot ... :)

Give it a test -

  1. save the link that I posted to your gallery in notepad

  2. Logout of Renderosity

  3. Log Off IE or Netscape [this step is very important]

  4. Log back onto to the web and copy paste your link in the Address line of your internet browser.

  5. This will take you to your gallery.

  6. Notice that you are now checked in as a visitor [It is very important to log off your Web Browser After logging off of the Renderosity Site and Before you log back into your Renderosity Gallery - if not, sometimes your Rosity cookies will think you are still you, and log you back in under your nick!]

  7. You will notice that you can view all the images within the Gallery [that the member's nick is included in the URL - in this case Your Gallery], as a visitor. This includes your Nude Images!

  8. Also, please note that No Nudity Warnings will appear, so, if you are concerned about visitors viewing your nudity images, again I would suggest you send them individual image links - with a note that you also have images on your gallery that Do contain Nudity :)

Ladynimue- that is just fantastic clarification, thank you very much ! Did what you said to test it too and , gosh, don't all the images look different with a white surround , my profile is set to all black, think I'll add frames to them all . You've saved me tons of time in having to coax my cranky printer into accurate prints by tomorrow as I can send that url off instead. I really appreciate that you took the time to do me such a thorough explaination. all the best, Gini the Now Content and Staying Put : ))))

Thanks for coming to the rescue, Mi'Lady...Sorry, Gini, I wasn't online last night and didn't see your question. I think ladynimue explained it more thouroughly than I could have anyway. >.< --Asher
