OK, I figured out set to set the principle point of focus (thanks), but why does anything out of focus look like it's processes through a mezzotint? It doesn't look like something that's out of focus, it look likes something that has fractal noise added to it. My render quality settings are presently at broadcast, and I've made test renders up to 1600x1200, and it still looks like crap.
Yes that's true ! Not really possible to render directly a great dof in Vue. But : render your image directly in Vue without DOF, save your image both in normal and z-buffer, and use the Z-buffer and your normal image to create by postwork a wonderful DOF effect. Sorry, I know it's possible to do but I never do it myself, maybe I made a mistake... Yves

Hi folks, I just started learning Vue (not pro) and I'm reading about DOF on page 63, and it says to adjust the blur and focus settings for the camera to get DOF. When I do that I get crap. How do you assign the critical focus point? Which of the two settings is responsible for DOF? Why does the finished render look like you're lookimg through frosted glass? I've set the quality level up to broadcast and it still looks like crap. Is there other info in this manual somewhere that gives more definitive details about this? Also, as an aside, my VUE version is 4.10.02, build 256601. Is there a further update to this program that I should be aware of? Thanks for any info
