Subject: Preteen Vicki hair question

Hiya. I have a question that's been bugging me for a while, but I never got around to asking. It's regarding having hair figures on the PT Vicki. Is there a general formula for scaling hair made for adult Vicki to fit the MGPT? Or does it vary from hair to hair. I was just curious if there was because I've always had problems with making hair look right on PT Vicki. I'm surprised more people do not make morphs to make it fit. That would be nice. :P Anyway, anything related to this would be fabulous as it has kept me from using MGPT more than I normally would. Thank you for any help.

Good question! You've already guessed the answer .. it varies from hair to hair. Usually I find reducing the overall scale to between 90-94% works. Generally, the smaller you have to scale down, the more you'll have to increase the Z scale setting to make the hair fit. Hair that is modelled around the ears of the adult Vicki is the hardest to get close, though rotating in the X axis often helps. But post work to hide hair that penetrates the ear is almost always necessary. The other thing to watch out for is the height of any rear peak in the hair. On the adult model a bit of a bump at the top rear of the head looks right, but on the MilGirl looks wrong. Reducing the Y scale doesn't help, as you then usually get scalp sticking through the hair model. But then part of the skill of the would-be 3D artist is to work within the limitations the medium offers.

Oh, and you don't have to rescale hair every time you load it. Simply save the scaled down version to your prop or character folder. I often save the entire model (MilGirl variant plus scaled hair) .. makes loading next time a breeze. For more help pop over to FaerieWylde .. little-head experts are there aplenty.

Well Koz's last three hairs(and I believe his best),Long,Messy, and Kyoko, have seperate fit to PT pose files you can DL. If the hair is a figure (not a hair prop)don't try to conform it,but get it placed, and parent it to the head. In general,I find that resizing the hair to 98% is all that is needed in most cases(changing the x or z scale by 2% was all that was needed for the odd ones). This is for the stock PT Girl. I use the PT mesh more than Vic2 or Vic3 (but resized and morphed to hell)and found I don't even need to make adjustments to the hair. Hope this helps,SWAMP

Thanks for the info. I'll keep all that in mind. I need to get those Fit-to poses for Koz's hair! Thanks for that, SWAMP. I wasn't away of that.
