I've beat that number by a bit but it looks really good. You have a ways to catch up. I just looked it up. I managed 3000 of em....

Your image is spectacular, so I hope you'll forgive me for noting this. The group of chariots that are closest to the foreground, due to their angle of placement, do look a bit "flat." It's evident that they're alpha planes. I assume that merely turning them a bit on the y-axis (actually I think it's the z-axis in Vue, you know, the "up and down" axis) so that the planes are perpindicular to the camera would fix this. It might become a non-issue if you're going to put more scene elements in the foreground. I haven't used alpha planes on a scale like this, but being flat, they do present some issues of perspective. I suppose another "trick" might be to render an alpha plane at the angle you want to place those chariots, so that the perspective will be appropriate. Have you seen the trailer for the movie "Troy?" Your image reminds me of a shot in it which the camera pulls back to reveal thousands of ancient warships. I hope you'll let us see your finished image.
