Subject: Question about textures and being bushy

Hi there, I have been wondering for awhile now, I'll use a cat as an example. Okay you have your seam guide, add fur texture, put it on the cat, nice smooth hair right, because the hair doesn't bush over the outside guidelines of the uv map. But say you want to do a persian? How on earth do you make the longer hair? I don't want to do hair so to speak, this is just an easy example, but even for clothes I had a pair of shoes I had wanted to add a nice texture with feather type top and again nothing past the lines. I'm sorry if the answer to this is obvious, it escapes me and I have yet to seen it asked nor found a tutorial, so any help would sure be appreciated. The only thing I can think is post work? :)

Well, one thing that comes to mind (Poser 5, mind you) is the ummm... what's that thing called again. >_> The displacement map. Although I haven't tried it myself, I've heard that it actually makes things raise/lower without changing the actual model itself. It's the way it's rendered. Also, you could try some bump mapping. I don't know if any of this is helpful, but it's a start I guess.

Often, fur is made in postwork, though the Poser 5 displacement and hair can give some fur too. On my picture Point of View I have postworked the P3 cat(!)'s fur so that it looks more fluffy. Firebirdz made a great Tutorial at Daz Arcana on how to do it :o) But well, allthough I won't say a persian is IMPOSSIBLE to do, it's HARD for sure :o)
