It's probably feasible and no you haven't woken up yet. lol 8) Does that help. grinsalot 8D Are yopu talking about the way that geosites will not show the thumb if you've maxed your bandwidth?, if so I think that storing the thumbs on R'osity would be a great idea but then I'm not staff so we'll both just have to wait for AS. 8) Catlin
lol they won't store them at all Catlin....but i have noticed others also that say someone else hosts the thumbs for them, on their sites, but would make it hard to change and edit them that way.... lol and i still havent' woken up....LOLOL is it to late to go back to bed after ya been up for 10 hours?
Yeah...it sucks about Geocities not allowing linking of pics (thumbnails). Two things; *It's not how much server space it would require, we have boatloads of that. It is once again, bandwidth, and anything that would be a strain on site speed. ;o/ *Usually, when you have a working freestuff item, with a working thumbnail, the best indicator that, the item is no longer available (the owners homesite is gone), is the thumbnail stops working. BUT, on the flipside - having all the thumbs on the renderosity server sure would speed up loading the freestuff area, as you are browsing it. Not only because they would be "local", but beacause some of those current thumbnails are NOT 200x200, 15Kb pics, some are MUCH bigger in size and Kb. Yet, here's an exmaple of the bandwidth problem, I hosted a freestuff item, a Poser Seagull, in my file locker space here at Renderosity. Just the thumbnail for that item (11Kb), has now been viewed 45,876 times. That equals 50Mb. (over about 5 months time) But, I'm still trying to think of a good solution to all this....;o) AgentSmith

I may try hosting thumbs for Brycers, that can't make their thumbnails work otherwise. But, I'll have to do some guesstimate math on that, see if my locker space cvan handle that, lol. I may have to do it slowly? AS

Nah, the Poser Seagull isn't mine at all. I was just trying to find one everywhere, when I ran across it on the www, and the bird's author needed a place to help host it. And, anything Poser is going to get a LOT of hits, lol. (My Bryce Shoji Lamp thumbnail (13Kb) has 15,457 hits out of 3 months.) I can do whatever I want with my file locker space. (so there, lol) AS

I been looking around....and thinking....and looking around...and thinking...finally, when all the smoke cleared LOL i thought of a silly question that I'm sure has been asked 1000 times. How difficult would it be to store the free stuff thumbs somewhere here on renderosity? Maybe the backroom or something? there's only about 1200 items there, (that i could see) if each thumb was about 15kb, that's only roughly 16 megs of space. Most there already have thumbnails linked outside from their own sites, so take away roughly 50% for outside sources, and that's only about 8 megs to store... now in reality, thumbs are typically around 9-10kb as they are saved, so that's even less space...roughly about 5.7 mb to store. (cheated and used my calculator cause is wayyy too early in the morning for this...LOLOL) Does this sound feasible somehow? or haven't i completely woken up yet? LOL Just some thoughts... Jen
