Subject: opinions about Poser

MoneLisa ( ) posted Tue, 09 December 2003 at 6:50 AM · edited Wed, 04 September 2024 at 8:13 PM

Can someone reply on this, answering a few of these questions:

-Why do you use Poser?
-How long have you been using Poser?
-What do you think about Poser?
-What do you use Poser for?

other comments really appreciated.

I'm doing an essay about Poser, and I need opinions from people.

Thanx in advance.

  1. Because I can't draw as well as I want, and this gives me a way to put visual ideas in a form other people can see and enjoy. 2) About 5 years (Man, I feel old.) 3) I think that I am so bloody sick of dealing with bugs, workarounds, lousy workflow, general poor programming workarounds and darn it, I want something better! 4) Character and story illustrations, general stills, a teeny bit of animation for kicks.

-Why do you use Poser? Why not? In other words, it's a digital tool that I can find uses for. Might as well use it. -How long have you been using Poser? Since 1999 or so. I had version 3, but only briefly before upgrading to Poser 4 (before it was Curious Labs). -What do you think about Poser? I think it's got lots of potential and I like what I can usually get it to do, but it's buggy, the interface is strange, it's quirky as hell, and it sometimes drives me CRAZY trying to work with it. -What do you use Poser for? Posing figures. :) You probably mean end results, though, right? I use the figures I render in web design and illustrations, for personal and commerical purposes. bonni

Why... My hands, over the years, have deteriorated to a point where controlling a pen, airbrush, or brush has become difficult. Being able to make subtle changes without starting over allows me accomplish what I'm trying to express without spending too much time or wasting materials. How long... I've been here at Renderosity for almost 2yrs now, I bought P4 shortly before becoming a member. What do I think... I think it is a great entry level 3D app that one can use to create some amazing art. Ripping apart the files to accomplish something is something I'm really starting to enjoy. It also gives me something to do when I am having a block. What do I use Poser for... Entertainment, an outlet for creative thought, and hopefully one day it might supplement my income. It's the app that I've been waiting for since the days of the Commodore Vic20.

Q Why do you use Poser? A I pretty much came to it by accident. But I really liked it and stuck with it. Q How long have you been using Poser? A Will be 2 years in February. Q What do you think about Poser? A Er well in what way? I love using it, comes very natural to me, even though I'm still figuring out stuff after 2 years. It can be a potent tool even though some of the people using Modelers like MAya, Lightwave etc make fun of it. Q What do you use Poser for? A I'm still preparing working on a Graphic Novel. That's the main reson I'm still using Poser. Also I need a creative outlet or I'd go crazy, gotta create :)

Why? Cheap and not cluttered with features. How long? Since Poser 1 (still have the floppies!) but I got dedicated with Poser 4 What do you think? Almost great. Needs a parent company that cares about it like we do. Used for Only for animation.

Why... It has a better learning curve than programs like 3dsMax or Lightwave, and it's a lot of fun too. I originally got it to create comics for some short stories I had written. How Long? Since 1995, with version 1.0 (whew! how far we've come!) What Do I think? I think it's awesome. It needs a beefy pc to get good performance though, and the interface is a bit schizo. But overall it's worth it to keep going and plowing ahead. Poser allows people that are new to 3d to get started easily. It is addictive though... What Do I use it for? To create comics and animations, still images (mostly for my own fun and entertainment). I'm a writer, not an artist, so I use it to tell my stories. Basically I look at it like I'm the director, and the Poser figures are my cast, and the various Poser Marketplaces are a wide-open Props shop!

Why? I was interested in creating 3D scenes and Poser was very easy to get to grips with. How long? Since March 2002. What do I think? Hmmm, it's ok. I can't complain, given its relatively low price. Not too pleased with some of its fun "features", however, such as randomly corrupting files and the like. What do I use it for? Creating images. :) Not a flippant answer, I assure you. I use Poser as one of many tools for creating any kind of image I may need/be commissioned for/self expression/whatever. I'm equally at home with Photoshop, paper, pencil canvas, board and brushes.

Why? I can't draw people as well as Poser can. Computers make things easier ;) Saves paper. It's FUN and challenging. How long? Since Metacreation's Poser 4.0 but really only started to learn since finding so many excellent resources on the www. i.e. Dr Geep. ;], PhilC, Nerd, Steve Shanks and many more great Poser users too numerous to mention. What do I think? I liked the comment someone else made about Poser being a "grapefuit" - I use both Poser 4 and 5 both are quirky but still I can't write anything better myself. What do I use if for? My main intention was to use the artwork/animations created in Poser for my software for children with severe disabilities. I have not done as yet as writing code takes just as long as Posing figures. Priorities :)

-Why do you use Poser? Poser has progressed to being a very usable tool to create artistic images, mainly people. -How long have you been using Poser? I was a Beta tester of Poser V1. What a joke that was. Poser wasn't of much use until V3. -What do you think about Poser? I really like it. Especially since I use it so much. While there are some aspects of the program that I don't care for, all in all its pretty cool. -What do you use Poser for? As a form of artistic expression.

-Why do you use Poser? I originally got poser to illustrate some of my short stories, but ended up enjoying making textures, so I never got around to illustrate ;P -How long have you been using Poser? I worked with poser 2 at a place I was working, but didnt care much for it, till I saw it again about 2 1/2 years ago. -What do you think about Poser? It a great program to fill a unique niche -What do you use Poser for? Right now as a market to sell textures, but I also do the occasional illustration or book cover. Rawn

  1. Its a very convenient source of people models. 2) 2 years, more off than on. 3) Its right up there with the most annoying programs I've ever used - more due to its interface than anything, but its still a damn handy program to have (how's that for a contradiction). 4) People plugin for my bryce pics.

  1. Like to make pretty things with people in them, my hands are no longer up to drawing, I have other forms of digital art but only Poser lets me use people in proper proportion and relatively pretty right off the bat. [which is why lots of people scorn the proggie] 2. 2 years now. Starting with Poser 4 and moving kicking and screaming to Poser 5. 3. Incrediably annoying frustrating program, the worst one I've ever bought twice. But it does the job and is actually capable of about 200% better renderings than when I started. I'm about 10% better, but the tools, textures, props are incredibly better. There's real grass now, for god's sakes. 4. I use it to tell stories, create people I would like to tell stories about. It sets my imagination free-- until the next freeze.;-) Emily
