Subject: what do these mean?

im new to some of the language that goes on here, so can someone explain what these acronyms mean? hdri dof dte the hdri is something real special it seems, as it does something to the way renders ""look"". is this something i have as a bryce 4 user?

HDRI is something no brycer has. HDRI is when you use an image insted of lights to light your scene. Bryce does not suport this but it is fakable. DOF means distance of field. It's like the focus on a camera. You can use this to blur the back- and foreground of your scene leaving only the center in focus. DTE is the deep texture editor.

ummm.... why would you use an image instead of lights to light your scene?

Just look at several threads about this subject. Bryce does not support HDRI, but indeed it can be faked and it gives very realistic lighting to scene. Klik on the URL, and see the Thread that started this all :)
