Subject: A couple of problems...

Background info-I'm running the latest Poser 4 on a G3 Mac 600mhz. OK, I'm new to Poser and I have tried a couple of different 3rd party programs and I seem to be having the following issues: Jade character-I can't load any bumpmap files even though they are listed and I see the thumbnail. I click on the appropriate .jpg file and instead of prompting me to convert it (as with other bumpmap files), it simply goes back to the materials window with no texture selected Daz standard res textures- I can load the texture image fine. I can also load the bumpmap but when I render, I get an error message saying it can't find the requested bumpmap....over and over again. Goddess Hair-whenever I apply it, my computer crashes upon rendering. Whew, sorry for the shotgun approach but I am just trying to get my project going. Thanks all.

About DAZ textures: Did you you convert the bumpmap files to .bum-files? The jpg-files that should be converted have names like V3BodyB.jpg, V3EyeB.jpg etc with a B in the name. You must do this before you try to load your character. Then Poser will save the converted textures with names like V3BodyB.bum etc to the same folder. Do you use the mat-files in the Pose library to apply the textures? About the Goddess Hair: Maybe you don't have enough memory in your computer, or you didn't give Poser enough memory. The more memory it has the happier it gets ...

Well, I eventually did do this through the materials window. But even after I did the conversion, I would still get the same message(can't find specified bumpmaps). Very odd. I remember another post that mentioned a program that makes sure the folder structures are correct. I may try that. It's so odd because all the files are recognized in the list as the proper formats but they just don't seem to make it into the render. I will have to play around with it. I have tried mat files in the poser menu but they just seem to hang up the program. I think I need to go one step at a time. As for Goddess hair, I have pumped up the memory for Poser quite a bit, but I will try to max it out and see what happens. THANKS!

Did you look in the texture folder if the bum-files are there? If you let the DAZ installer install all the files for you they should be in Poser:Runtime:textures:DAZ:MilWoman(?):V3 or something like that. The program you're talking about is probably Macinstaller which you find at the same place as Maconverter www.soft-rabbit.com. You can use it even if you installed stuff already. Just drop one (or several) library folders on it and choose repair in the popups. It will try to find all the textures and obj-files that are mentioned in the .cr2's, pz2's etc, and if it doesn't find them you'll get a chance to locate them yourself. I don't have it installed at the moment so I can't tell exactly.

Another question comes to mind: is your Poser version 4.03? If it's not go to Curious Labs. You'll find the update (free) under Downloads.

Thanks for all the help. Things are getting better! I have all the DazV3 texture problems worked out. Odd thing, it seems that Poser only wants to convert a couple of .jpgs to .bumps in a session. I had to restart Poser to get through all the conversions. I am still having trouble with one conversion for my Jade character. I get the convert prompt, I can see the coversion taking place (via the progress bar) but when it's done, it hasn't created the bumpmap version of the file anywhere on my computer. Do you know of any other image coverter program that I may be able to use to convert jpg to bump? Thanks and Merry Christmas!

Somebody showed how to convert to bum-files manually, with the help of Photoshop I think, either in this forum or Poser Technical, but I am not sure. MartinC at www.soft-rabbit.com made a plugin for Graphic Converter that makes bumpmaps but it doesn't work in OSX only in OS 9 and older.
