Poser Technical F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 04 2:47 am)
Welcome to the Poser Technical Forum.
Where computer nerds can Pull out their slide rules and not get laughed at. Pocket protectors are not required. ;-)
This is the place you come to ask questions and share new ideas about using the internal file structure of Poser to push the program past it's normal limits.
New users are encouraged to read the FAQ sections here and on the Poser forum before asking questions.
I just looked at the Photoshop 7 help index, and the keywords bump or bum don't appear in the context of bump maps. If you don't have GraphicConverter, then try resaving the jpg as tiff in some app like Photoshop or PSP. Maybe there's some problem with the original jpg that Poser can't handle. Like it's over 4096 square or it's progressive or it's corrupted somehow.
Do you want to have a .bum extention or just make a Jpeg into a bump map....If you have Poser 4 that will convert jpegs into .bum....But if you want a bump.jpeg...for poser pro and up....well first of course load your jpeg then go to IMAGE-MODE-GRAYSCALE then go to IMAGE-ADJUSTMENTS-BRIGHTNESS/CONTRAST then adjust Contrast between +38 to +42 then go to IMAGE-ADJUSTMENTS-INVERT and that's it, now your jpeg is a bump map you can use in poser:)
Actually, the problem I am having is that Poser doesn't seem to properly convert the .jpg files to bump files for use with my Jade character. Poser WILL convert other .jpgs with no problem, but there is something about the Jade files that it doesn't like. It will prompt me to convert, and then it will go through the motions of converting, but it never actually creates a .bum file. I hate to spend $30 on an image converter program when I shouldn't have to.

Hi there, I'm the one who wrote the Photoshop 6 Action. You can get it at Poser Pros (http://www.poserpros.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6380). Also in that thread I explain how the action works. Is it true that Photoshop can convert jpg to bump files that can be used in Poser? If so, does anyone know what the process is? Thanks!
