Why have a photo real iris texture if the highlight doesn't match the scene lighting? When removing highlights and cloning the color back into the space, I usually also make the 2 eyes slightly different from each other. This way a model doesn't look quite like an escapee from Mattel. Gack! I don't live here. Truth is that I spent most of the day with the head under the covers. The thug who broke into my car Christmas night stole my driving glasses. I accosted him and it is lucky that he ran (big ugly guy) because with this migraine I would probably have done something stupid. My stress levels have gone through the ceiling (I cannot replace the glasses or repair the car and so will lose my mobility and freedom) and it is really hard to keep a sense of humor. Punning on the tenets of long-dead philosphers helps. Hmmm... can you pass that bag of chuckles this way? Have we thoroughly derailed this thread? Or should we go back to discussions of highlights and glows coming from a real light source? Carolly

And, I apologize if I, in any way, contributed to your "stress levels." <----- (been there-done that) ... let's see now ... real light source ... wanders off trying to think of something "bright" to say

Well, maybe something about Peter Pan trying to stitch his shadow back onto his feet and needing Wendy's help? And what else do you do with a shadow draped over your arm instead of on the floor where it ought to be? Can you clothify a shadow? (And no you haven't added to the stress levels... I can take a fair bit of teasing.) Carolly
Getting back to topic (really!), painted-on shadows as well as highlights will have to be examined with the new application. Most of us use the layer effects in PhotoShop to get a hint of 3dedness to our textures, with or without bumpmaps. Part of why those gorgeous texture packages look so rich and worth buying is the illusion of depth. This is fine as long as the main lighting is from above, but if our hero has his long legs stretched out next to the fireplace, the embossing on his boots suddenly looks wrong. New lights AND new shadows are going to take a while to get used to. Carolly

DAZ Studio, as well as many other renderers implement specularity and reflections to allow for highlights. This is especially true with eye and hair textures. Textures that have painted on highlights defeat the ability of these renderers to create natural highlights. This is something that should be considered when creating textures.
Since Poser files can be imported into other rendering programs that can create highlights, it would be appreciated if textures with and without highlights were included in a texture package. If that is not possible then the highlights could be included as a seperate image that can be layered over the texture in PhotoShop or Paint Shop Pro.
