Subject: Rendering in poser5 with a transparent background...

Someone mentioned something like this before... since I'm playing with snow and rain, this would be what I'd need for compositing. Basically, I just want poser to render whatever I have in the scene, without rendering any background at all, so when I import it into photoshop, a image can just be layered behind the rendered object. Someone mentioned before that you have to sae it as a specific filetype, but when I tried that, I still had background image. This is pretty basic, so I'm sure there's a way...

File>Export>Image>Save as Type in the scroll down box at the bottom of the dialog box, select .PNG. I find that PNG format works quickly. If you want the alpha channel, then select .TIFF format.

I'll try that...thank! Is there any advantage to either format? I never looked for a alpha channel when I sved before. I just figured there would be two main layers, the transparent backdrop, and then the actual rendered image. Course that would make too much sense.. LOL!

If you save as TIF or PSD, you'll have an alpha channel when you open it in Photoshop; not sure about PNG. BUT, if you've rendered with a background image--such as a sky--it will still be there and the alpha channel won't do you much good.

I'm thinking more of rendering with the volumetric snow, and using that on top of an actual image...

Then render a scene with just the snow in it. Save as tif or psd, then open it and your other image in Photoshop. Open the channels palette in your snow render and ctrl-click on the alpha channel (should be the last panel in the palette). Only the snow flakes should be selected and you can drag them over to your other image. If both images are the same size, you can hold down SHIFT while you drag and the snow will be placed in the exact center of the target image when you release the mouse button. Alternately, you could copy the selected snow from your render then paste into your image.

Again, thanks for tips!
