Often I need a channel with a solid grey tone in the alpha channel. Using a procedural texture, I can set noise to nothing and get any colour I like in the colour channel, but the alpha is always 50% grey, and I may want 25% or 75%. How does one change the alpha output in such circumstances? I can do it by loading a 25% grey bitmap and copying it into the mask channel, but there must be a simpler way.

You can use a filter like ABS and by moving the B value change the alpha channel from black to white. Set the A value to zero, then B =1 will be white and B=0 will be black. Is that what you were asking? Best; Dan
