Subject: What goes into a Poser image?

Hello Friends, As a person who is just getting started in Poser, I was wondering if anyone could share with me, what actually goes into the making of a Poser image? Here is just one of the links to one of my favorite images http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=575803. Do you create the actual person in Poser including the clothes, jewelry and hair, and then, edit the background and image in Photoshop? Or, do you have to buy the clothes, jewelry and hair as seperate programs? Not that I am at this stage, heck, I am still waiting for the software and books to arrive, but when I see images like this one, one can only wonder how its all put together to look so beautiful. Thank you all very much, and please, keep doing what you all are doing. Every image I see, only inspires me to become so creative. Thorrax

Well, if you look in the Product Credits, you can see that the texture is by Stormi, the hair by danae, the poses by Danie, etc. So this artist took elements from other people and combined them to create another work. Some people do their own characters, textures, hairs, props, lighting, poses, etc. Others do some and not all. Others do none. It depends on you, your ability, the software you have available, the time you have to spend on the project, and how important it is to you that it is completely original or more the result of teamwork. It's rather like a movie. Very few movies are made that have the same person starring, writing, directing, focusing the camera, adjusting the lighting, making the costumes, creating the set, etc. The same is true of Poser. You can do as much, or as little, as you like but it isn't necessary to do it all in order to create a graphic.

And, by the way, you will find this issue is a big can of worms in the Poser community....and also one that discussed often and with great passion. Welcome to the club. :)

Personally, I'd start with your basic posing. Just load Posette or P4 man to the scene, and try to pose them. You don't have to rush right away and get Vicki and everyone else from Daz. Trust me, there's no end to it once you start, lol. :))

"Do you create the actual person in Poser including the clothes, jewelry and hair, and then, edit the background and image in Photoshop? Or, do you have to buy the clothes, jewelry and hair as seperate programs?" Poser itself includes a few basic items of clothing and hair, and some basic props like boxes and cylinders, which can be combined to make simple furniture. So it's possible to build a complete scene using nothing outside of Poser. But nearly all "artistic" scenes will include other stuff. A lot of clothing and props are available free, either here or in other websites. So you can get along quite well without buying anything outside of Poser, but sooner or later you'll get hooked. (The first few doses are free, as with any addiction!)

Thank you very much! I will try and read as much as I can, then, do as best as I can to make a Poser out of myself. I just cant begin to express the the right words I have for all of you who have devoted lots of time to this craft. But I will say one thing, all your work shows what people can do with the right tools and imagination. Yes, it is endless! Thank you Thorrax

'A' has it right. Don't worry about reading very much; as with most computer programs, the manual is unhelpful for beginners. Just get an image in mind, start moving things around, and ask questions here when you're stumped.

lol- he hit it right on the head- welcome to your new addiction :) you want to try to make a charatcer of your self- thats a real handfull. if I may- I'd suggest try makeing a little porn- it teaches you how to pose and set up lighting. make 'several' before you try to make a uploadable picture. you think this is funny, when I was learning morse code- the first thing they teach you is how to swear- sticks in the mind easier. also- far to many ppl pose a character then post it- only taking a couple of hours- but the better artist will spend week(s) adjusting every little detail. and the last thing- quality skins and characters DO make a world of difference. you'll see :) good luck :)

Welcome Thorrax! 8) I'm relatively new to Poser too and I thought at first it would just be something to play with when I had a spare moment. That's before I discovered that the Poser addiction creeps up on you very fast and as soon as you start to buy figures, clothes, props, etc you simply can't stop. It is a great addiction though, and you seem to have an eagerness to get started that should help you overcome any stumbling block you may come accross. 8) Catlin

What do you need? Not much. Vicky, a temple, a sword -- you're done. :)
