THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: OT...OK, FESS UP!!

Something struck a funny note with me from a comment Rayraz made in his last post about writing/rushing out the door cuz he was late. Sooo, how many of you spend your last rushing moments online (here or not)? OR...fall asleep at the puter? OR...rationalize mega hours creating? HMMMMM? (of course I'm as guilty as any one of you) LOL

Everyday.Time sure seems to fly on this.I'll see the clock and know ....OK I have 15 minutes before I have to leave. Then I have to mad dash for the door and drive at breakneck speeds to be on time for stuff.Oh I also wish there was a snooze buzzer to vibrate me awake at times. But NOw I pose a question to say....How many people actually get a good sleep in their desk chair?I do.

With me it's 'just one more litle tweak here, no there, move this here, no there', and then it's 12 hours later...:)

on the weekdays, i wake up and stay on the comp for every possible second until I have to be away from it for 8 hours.

Swade ( ) posted Wed, 14 January 2004 at 6:49 PM

I'm with ya all.... most of my available time is spent here at the computer Brycing or on Renderosity, and every so often I play a little Battlefield 1942 Desert Combat. And yes ICM/Amethyss, I fall asleep at the computer nearly daily. Lol.... 8) Wade

I'm home on disablity so just about every waking moment is spent on the computer unless there's something really very good on TV. Nevertheless, I become so absorbed sometimes while Brycing that I sometimes skip regular meals and end up having late ones. I start in on something and it's early. What seems like a short time goes by, I look up and it's 3 hours later. I do sometimes find myself rushing to a doctor's appointment after having spent my time fussing over the computer.

all the time..had to give up my work machine for a 266 (salvaged machine), so there's a lot of time I'm rendering to avoid traffic..;)

I think I had better tell that one to my partner Melansian Mentat. He is always moaning that since I have been at home almost 24/7 he never gets meals on time, or else they are burned. He just doesn't understand that you can't leave the pc whilst bryce is on the screen.

Time does just disappear while at the computer. I was late for work last year. By 9 MONTHS late. They don't want me back for some reason. Maybe we should start a self help group. "Hi, my name's Phillip and I'm a Bryceaholic, it's been 4 hours since my last render."

ICM, I rarely sleep sitting up but it has happened. I don't have as much time for long renders as I used to, and I'm running into a whole lot of scheduling conflicts; rushing? you might say that. Ironically the faster I go the slower I get. Whether it's a matter of fast being slow and slow being fast as I've heard somewhere before, or whether time is really speeding up (they haven't had to add a leap second for five years from what I've heard) or I'm just getting older I can't really say. - TJ(bikermouse: Is coffee a vegtable? Okay, you've all hit a nerve with me for sure! I have for a long long time been totally baffled by how prolific so many of you are in your artwork. I know you must be spending a LOT of time at it for these pieces to come out as beautiful as they do and for you to have developed the skills you have. Let me say now that I for one have noticed and admire and appreciate all of your hard labors to bring these fascinating bits of eye candy to us. If you will look at my gallery you will notice that I haven't added to it in ages. I have realized that I am at an awkward stage in my skills. Finally advanced enough that I can (sometimes) create some decent images worthy of sharing. And advanced enough that as I get into an image I am working on I think of ways to tweak it and fine-tune it to make it better, or things that it needs that I am just "not quite there yet" to do. And all this adds greatly to the time it takes to finish a piece. I have dozens and dozens of unfinished pictures and pieces of pictures all over my hard-drive and on CDs and such. My hat is off to all of you for your great dedication and perseverance!!! -- Jeff in Arkansas

Well, here's what some of us do, Zescanner..(the less talented ones lak me..;)..CHEAT!..;)

  1. remember, no matter what you do, you're looking at a wedge of space..do like the scene designers in Hollywood do, if you don't see it, don't render it..this has added benefits, in that if you make a 'small' enough scene, you can crowd in enough props, booleans, and landscape to give the 'illusion' of a vast world
  2. Mats n' stuff- there's tons of mat sites out there, and a good texture can give a lot of detail to an otherwise plain primitive..try looking for Wolfie's Den, Pixel Wonder, Lunariad, Nogart, that's about a couple hundred to start..good ones, too
  3. Lights..one thing that can set an atmosphere, bring out detail, or destract the eye from a mistake (and who are our fiercest critics? ourselves..;), is a judiciously-placed light. Just remember, the more lights, the more time spent rendering..
    hope that helps some

I think for me it changes more or less to spending my last rushing moments off-line lol. My online life is much better then my offline one.
