i have been creating some new materials and have hit a sporodic problem. sometimes, as i'm saving a material, the values in the 'edit texture' dialogue change at random. most often it is the scale but sometimes it can happen to the rotation and offset.

i'm getting somewhat frustrated as it means that i lose the material i've created. i've tried both saving before and after i apply the material to an object but that doesn't appear to make any difference.

i was wondering if anybody could please help me before i end up completely bald.

You could try adding your new mat to your collection through the little > on the right hand side of the nano-viewer.................before you close down the editor....

thanks bryster - i think that's just about the only thing i haven't tried. i've tried out your suggestion a couple of times now and it all seems to be aok so hopefully it will continue to behave. :) i thank you and what's left of my hair thanks you.

just as my hair follicles were starting to relax - and there's nothing better than content hair - the materials lab has started changing settings again. i made a number of materials using TheBryster's suggestion and was happy with how well things were behaving. but now - well, it's not co-operating.

The 'edit texture window' retains the settings from the last texture or material used, even though you saved it to the mat lab. This happens 'especially' if it is a picture texture. When bringing in a new mat or pic tex you'll have to check that window to see if the settings are for the last one you saved. For every new one, before you save, make sure they're correct.

thanks Zhann for the suggestion - I do that and 90% of the time, it's fine - it's just that sometimes it just won't keep the new settings - on occasion i have found it to jump back several settings as i save it. i am beginning to wonder if it is something to do with how Bryce handles memory as it seems to be more likely to go nuts after i've created several materials either that or the materials lab is just holding its own minor rebellion :)

You might also increase the memory alloted to Bryce, see if that helps. BTW, do you have the patch installed? I found I had all sorts of quirky things happen in the mat lab and DTE when I had the patch installed....

snap Zhann :) - i had been having this problem for ages so thought i'd install the patch - made things go nuts - the DTE was a nightmare - so i uninstalled everything and now only have the original program installed. thanks for your suggestions/comments Zhann
