Here's a mystery for you (and me). Suddenly, like today, I have lost an arrowhead and I don't know where it has gone.

I am using Photoshop 7 and today I started up PS and opened an image. I wanted to make a duplicate layer but the small arrowhead on the Layers Palette heading in the docking well has disappeared. In fact when I click on the Layers heading the docking well disappears instead of the drop-down palette. Can anyone please help?

Hey Jack that's weird! What tool were you using? (actually i don't think it's tool related)... Try and toss your "pref" file and see if it snaps back.

To clear your PREF file, locate it (should be somewhere like...) C:Documents and SettingsusernameApplication DataAdobePhotoshop7.0Adobe Photoshop 7.0 Settings (file name=Adobe Photoshop 7.0 Prefs.psp) - rename it Adobe Photoshop 7.0 PrefsOLD.psp (or just delete if you feel "daring")

or if you want to do it by "keystroke", quit PS and re-launch it and hold down Command-Option-Shift. Youll be asked if you want to delete the Preferences.

Click OK and see if it comes back...

Thanks for your suggestions. I think I have solved it but I have no idea how it started. I did the usual things such as re-install PS 7. No difference. Un-installed a piece of software from the previous day as there might have been a conflict. No difference. I then tried the System Restore for Windows XP to earlier dates. None of them worked (so there's another problem to be sorted).

Finally I opened PS and went to Window>Workspace>Reset Palette Locations. All the different palettes appeared and when I dragged Layers and History up into the palette well hey presto the arrowhead had returned. In the first illustration the layers palette is actually covering up the palette well so we can't see the layers arrowhead.

Again thanks for your suggestions.
Cheers
Jack
