Ok this is'nt really a Poser question but it will help poser run faster. How do I get these prorams to NOT start up automatically when I start my 'puter up? This is not a shot from my home 'puter ( mine has alot more programs there) it is annoying as hell to keep shutting them every time at start up. thanks

In the start menu there is a folder called startup..in this should be list of the programs that start with windows automatically...now go into settings..task bar and start menu..click on advanced..go to the startup folder and delete the links you don't want to start automatically, but be carefull not to delete necessary links

Another thing to do is go to run, and type msconfig That'll bring up all the startup stuff. Click on the startup tab, and it'll get all those other programs that run at startup but aren't in the startup folder. =) Rosh

Heres something simple. How about right clicking on them and clicking disable on start menu? HEHE also you can right click the item and properties and find where it is checked start on windows startup because the programs will still open even if not on startup menu.

Lady Cherry is right. There is also a registry section that programs use to start. It is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun Venture into the registry at your own risk and be careful. :-)

An additional note. Be careful if you edit the registry. If you do not know what the program is, then do not remove the registry entry. Some programs yoy do not want to remove, like systray (system tray -- icons on the start bar) or taskmon (task monitor).

If you're using Win98 and up you can use the System Information program to remove any start up programs you have , safely , even 'hidden' programs that aren't on your startup menu.

Real Media, the little blue icon, can be set not to run at startup in its own properties or options menu. Double click it to start it up then look for its options menu.

Step be step: click on start and scroll up to Programs. From there scroll up to Accessories. From there scroll down to System Tools. Scroll down to and click on System Information. In the dialog box that opens, click on Tools. Scroll down to and click on System Configuration Uitilty. Over to the right click on the Start Menu tab. In that dialog box uncheck from the list the programs you don't want to start automatically. But as mentioned before, be careful not to uncheck your antivirus program info, or your modem, your scan reg if you have that going configured to run on startup, and any scheduled maintanence tasks. Click Apply when done. Then click OK. A window will open asking to restart your computer to make these chances take effect. Click yes. Hope this isn't too basic. I took the long route at first to learn how to turn them off. Gotta get some shut eye now, early start tomorrow! Wow! It's already early!! :)

another way to do the job (be cautious) Start menu / run / type msconfig you'll have a system utility. Go to "startup", and disable the things you KNOW and you don't need. Be careful with things you don't know about, they can be needed by your system...
