Subject: Mimic-Ready Characters...Which Are?

ChuckEvans ( ) posted Fri, 30 January 2004 at 11:59 AM · edited Sat, 03 August 2024 at 6:21 AM

Just like the subject says...how does a person know which figures are and which aren't? Why does it matter? What are the problems if they aren't Mimic-ready? (sorry...I may have been conned into doing a small piece of annimation for work and I hardly know anything about it). Thanks in advance!

Hi Chuck, I have a bunch of poser characters and I tried each and everyone of them in MimicPro to see which ones will work or not. It seems to me that the more "facial" morphs a character has the more likely it is to work in mimic. Anton did a tut on how to make your characters "Mimic" ready but I have not had the chance to try it out...so I really can't how hard/easy it is to accomplish? If you have a specific character in mind and I have it, I would be more then happy to give it a try and let you know for sure. (:

The dials mimic looks for (names must be exact): Phonemes: OpenLips Mouth O Mouth F Mouth M Tongue T Tongue L Expression: RBrowUp LBrowUp Blink Right Blink Left Twist Side-Side Bend These are the morphs that a figure needs to be mimic compatible, the phonemes are the ones that are essential but you don`t actually NEED the others for talking.

I got the list of morphs from anton`s message, by the way.

Thanks, guys. Interesting reading. It seems like there would be some sort of "Mimic stamp of approval" on a figure. At least, if I had the ability to make and market a figure, I'd surely tout Mimic ability if I took the extra time to make it so.

Posette, the P4 Male, Michael 1-2, the Millennium Dragon, the Millennium Dog, and the DAZ Unimesh figures (Victoria 3, Michael 3, the Freak, Stephanie Petite, etc.) are Mimic-ready.

Victoria 1-2, Michael 2 P4, Stephanie 1, Stephanie P4, Aiko, the Millennium Boys and Girls, and the Millennium Baby are mostly Mimic-ready, but have misnamed blink morphs; downloadable updates are available on the Mimic product pages at DAZ.

The Millennium Cat is mostly Mimic-ready, but requires a properly-named OpenLips morph for full articulation.

3D Commune's Alexa isn't Mimic-ready, but an update should be available soon.

Several people have created Mimic updates for the old P4 animals; I'll be adding the lion and frog to that list in a day or two. And I uploaded updates for the DAZ Toonimal figures yesterday.

Thanks, LD, for the detailed list! If Sara isn't Mimic-ready, then I suppose DW's Pixie and that "other thing" DW ade aren't, either. And, for sure, Uncle Sam at DAZ isn't, I would surmise. Thing is, I think I need a humanoid character with a suggestion of cuteness (the Uncle Sam would be perfect but I suspect he is the least Mimic-ready of all). I don't think toonimal characters would cut it. And, of course, I will have to dive into the book and see what I can figure out about animation (assuming I am told to try and do something). Thanks for the info, guys!

Here's a quickie I did, hopefully it works? AND, Yes, Neftoon gal works great in Mimic, I was going to mention that too in this post but Neftis beat me to it. (: Since Neftis is on my mind right now, so does her Mr.Bunny....he talks as good as any human figure around! LOL!

ChuckEvans ( ) posted Sat, 31 January 2004 at 8:15 AM

Well, I'll be darned! I may have to check into that since, if this annimation is requested, the work I'm doing is for what amounts to a political appointtee. Thanks, Genny! And, now that Neftis reminds me, it seems like Neftoon gal "speaks" on the site. I'll go and check (and see what bunny looks like, too).

Chuck, all I have to say is.......You would be very surprised as to what "character" is mimic ready or not.(: The ones from Daz, are the one's that I thought would be "FOR SURE"....but NOT the case. (: Like I said before........if I got it, I will try it out, and my character files are not limited to Daz only. (: Just let me know, and I will give it a go.(:

"The ones from Daz, are the one's that I thought would be "FOR SURE"....but NOT the case." Genny, Before DAZ acquired the MIMIC software, they weren't very good about making any of their figures Mimic capable. It just wasn't that important to them. I remember complaining about this a lot back in the "old days". It always seemed as if Mimic-capability and animation suitability in general were very low on their list of priorities. Daz catered mostly to the "still-image-rendering" folk. It was only after they bought the rights to the Mimic product from LipSync Software that their figures started becoming Mimic-capable, and they issued patches to fix most of their old characters and make them Mimic-capable. -jjsemp

Koshini isn't mimic-ready by default, but Ockham (at least I THINK it was Ockham) posted a mimic-ready Koshini here in free stuff.
