Subject: I need transparency help

I'm working on severial clothing textures that need transparencies on them put when I try to render them in poser I get whiteish areas where the transpaencies are. I tried getting the min/max to 100 but that didn't help. I can't figure out what to do. Wait that's obvieous, I'm posting here for help... that means I don't have a clue :)

I'm guessing this is Poser 4 since you're talking about min and max... Have you made sure the falloff (or is it called edge in P4?) is at 0?

You should also set the reflective colour to black.

yep color is black and I haven't touched falloff so it should be 0. and i'm on PP if that helps. My limited knowlage is all over the place. I see something that looks interesting thentwo months later I try and do it only to remember just enough to get frustrated. Oh well. If you know where tutorials for this are I'd be very happy. Oh and thanks for the quick replys.

I'm not sure what you mean by "whiteish" but are you sure your transmap is 100% white and 100% black? Differing shades of grey will allow some of the texture to show.

in a word yes. It's black and white. Though there is a bump map in there for texture, well you know what I mean. But it to is white where there's supossed to be nothing.

Make sure 'highlight color' is set to black (doesn't hurt to turn the highlight slider all the way down, too). Additionally, if you are using a reflect map, be sure that it is set to 'multiply through object color' only. This has always worked for me in P4.....

It is, I just can't remember with out the file open in front of me. I'm a bit damaged in the brain. It comes from not having a job at the moment and staying up for 36 hours at a time... but you don't care... nobody cares.
I'll keep trying diffrent things. BTW dose anyone know where I could get tutorials on this and realistic texture making for people? Thanks for the quick replys as always.

The solution is really simple. Make all parts of your texture map which are transparent black, or plug the transparency map into the texture map. Thats it. What you see are the highlights, but this method lets you use transparency with highlights. Mungo

I tried makeing a transparency once and had heeps of problems. The black I used was not "true" black. Did you make certain all the value of black on you transp map itself are R-0 G-0 B-0

DemonMage and Marque - there seems to be some confusion about what needs to be set to black or white here. It's like this: Opaque areas on your transmap = White Transparent areas on your transmap = Black Opaque areas on your texture = Whatever you like Transparent areas on your texture = Black. It's vitally important that the transparent sections on your texture map are black in addition to the ones on your transmap.

Thanks Sam, you are right I was completely forgetting the regular texture map in this and just dealing with the transparency map. 8^) The more we learn the more we learn we have so much more to learn! Marque
