Subject: Looking for free characters!

OchreJelly ( ) posted Thu, 05 February 2004 at 3:31 PM · edited Sun, 09 February 2025 at 10:04 PM

I am a relative newcomer to the CG scene, and have a question regarding Poser 4. I currently am just checking out the demo, (I'm not sure I want to buy it yet...) and would like to know where a few good FREE characters are for it. Obviously, they can't be ones that need to be decoded or anything like that; I spent a whole hour downloading two characters and found out that I couldn't use them because they were encoded with RTEncode...
If anyone could help me, I would appreciate it! Thanks.

Try Sixus1. He has some outstanding free models, including humans.

You can get Sara for free from Daz3D. You'll have to register first if you're not already a member.

I just want to say thanks for the help from all the people who replied to my message. Hopefully this will get my artistic gears in motion. Thanks.

There is also MayaDoll, at Studio Maya. I'm sure some kind person will post a link.

In the words of DarkStarRising:
"Sadness within sadness,
Darkness within darkness,
a shadow of a form lays upon the floor,
looking at herself
looking at her own shadows of loneliness"

RTE encoder was probably not the problem (its free), however, it is used to make sure that the recipient (you) has the correct copyrighted base geometry files before it decodes the figure.

You just need to look for, and download the figures based on the P4 geometry files that you have (as opposed to add-ons like Victoria, Michael, Millenium Girls, Stephanie, etc.), or install new original figures that come with the base geometry such as "Maya Doll" as DarkStarRising suggested.

But really, there is a ton of P4 goodies in FreeStuff that should work fine for you. You might sort by date and look just about the time the first Victoria stuff shows up.

(When was V1 released?)

go over to the 3d Links forum here, and look up a thread called 'art linklister'; there are hundreds of characters of all types out there, but this has a few links that you could use.

Yup but the only human present in the DEMO is the Casual Man (Dork) so any file that depends on Posette or the nude man or whatever won't work. Otoh, Sara, Maya Doll and the characters from Sixus should work just fine :o)

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

Also, there are Dork-based characters at www.animotions.com that OchreJelly could try (love the nick!).

Yes, but unless they're based on the Casual Guy they still won't work. He's not just P4NM with clothes.

"Dork" is P4NM, AFAIK.

Exactely :o) The point is that if all he has is the demo, he won't HAVE P4NM :o)
