I took two renders from my modeling program Rhino2. In one of them I made the body of my sub invisible. Then I took both of these into Photopaint and combined them using the objects feature. I turned up the transparency on the body object. If you do this in Photoshop just substitute the word LAYER for the word OBJECT.

Sweet... This would work in Bryce too... Maybe do it in Bryce next time that way it would go in the Bryce Forum...But instead of rendering two(2)pics you would be able to do it in one render if the model has multiple Parts...

Bryce won't let me turn off the render backfaces option which allows the torpedo tubes to be half transparent, as well as the cockpit enclosure.

Does the Model have Multiple Parts? If YES then you can do this in Bryce....Just Play with the Materials Transparencies and you will be able to achieve this effect...The cockpit will be non transparent and the Sub will be 90% Transparent and the tubes you could make 75% Transparent...If your model is not in multiple Parts then doing this is going to be hard unless you Break up the Model into several Parts in Rhino or Wings3D...

why not try using that x-ray mat that was in the forumn some time ago?

Experience is no substitute for blind faith.

uvmapping using 2 instances of the mesh, each mapped seperately? one map for the transparent skin; one for the rest? just an idea

Groingrinder- also try handpainting on a clip mask set from object transparency to tweak this technique. Very powerful way to do this. I use it all the time when compositing images.

Pass no temptation lightly by, for one never knows when it may pass again!
