Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 24 6:22 pm)
The 'out of memory' error is a geberic message from poser. It doesn't mean you're out of memory. It means 'Help! Something's not right here!' First of all, what version of poser do you have? If it's poser 4, try this. The next time you get the error, make a note of what figure it was. Close poser, then go to the Geometries folder (in Windows Explorer) and try to locate the obj file for that figure. There will be 2 files - an .obj and an .rsr - delete the .rsr (poser will rebuild it the next time you open the figure). Go back to poser and open the same figure and see if it gives you an error. mac
You most often getn the Out of Memory error message if you load something when you don't have the necessary Geometry file. An example would be an item clothing that requires the original item from a clothing pack. Another example would be a Vicki or Mike character that requires the original Geometry figure. You usually get the out of memory message after you get another message statying the geometry file couldn't be found. Poser might freeze, then you hit CTRL ALT DEL to quit Poser. Then you end up corrupting a geometry RSR file, and get the message.
To answer your question about what to delete: Only delete the rsr's in the GEOMETRIES folder. The ones in characters or props and so on are only thumbnails and has nothing to do with the obj :o)

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

I keep getting out of memory errors when I try to open a figure file. Not on everything, but it seems to be a kind of random event. things that I had just opened a few minutes before now won't open. Somethings that won't open when I open poser will open after I close the window and start a new window. Totally confused by this. Please don't tell me that I have to all my poser files, I am still reloading from the last time.....
