Subject: What's in YOUR wallet... or... How much did you spend on Poser this year?

ookami ( ) posted Thu, 19 February 2004 at 8:49 PM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 10:00 AM

I do some professional work, so I write all of my Poser purchases off on my taxes. So, I added everything up from the major stores and these were my totals: DAZ3D - $720 Renderosity - $545 RuntimeDNA - $436 Poserpros - $95 That was alot of write offs. Especially considering I only made $1345 using Poser. =) How much did YOU spend?

cedarwolf ( ) posted Thu, 19 February 2004 at 9:05 PM

Not nearly that much, but then again, I get the lovely academic discount for software. Poser 5: $200 DAZ: $200 If I had more to spend, trust me, I would...there's about $400 worth of DAZ and at least that much at RDNA I want, along with everything at Sams3D and IGW43D. And then there's that extra 529 MB of RAM and the new Hard Drive....but those will have to wait for NEXT fall's financial aid when I start the PhD program.

millman ( ) posted Thu, 19 February 2004 at 9:17 PM

On poser itself? 'Bout $170, but you don't wanna know about the software where I USE the poser stuff. (And I'm a volunteer, I don't get paid for it.)

bclaytonphoto ( ) posted Thu, 19 February 2004 at 9:33 PM

ZERO.... I won a copy of Poser 5 in a contest...haven't had much time to play with it... Now that the new Computer is paid for...and the one I bought my Mom for Christmas almost paid for... maybe, I'll buy some Poser stuff.. Then again, I'm thinking of adding some more 18" speakers to the PA system...

I only want to know if it makes me feel better about how much I spent. :(

sandoppe ( ) posted Fri, 20 February 2004 at 12:02 AM

Waaaaayyyyy toooooo much!! I didn't add it all up, but I would guess I've purchased more in 6 months than most of you do all year :) And what's really funny is that I don't make a dime from this stuff!! Strictly a hobby. Of course......I don't have kids or a spouse, I don't drink, I'm not a natty dresser, my house is paid for and I don't have much of a social life :) Besides smoking, this is my only vice. So, what the hell! I can't take the money with me and it's fun.....and that's all that matters :)

Silly_Sue_1 ( ) posted Fri, 20 February 2004 at 1:38 AM

Just $189.99 + tax for Poser 5. I just got the program, but after reading this message thread, I better be careful or my hubby will disown me....... I don't plan on buying to much for the program. I will make due with what I have so far, until I learn it alot more. Thanks.

Tintifax ( ) posted Fri, 20 February 2004 at 2:00 AM

Well, $99 for a Poser5 upgrade and about $1000 for items at Daz, Renderosity, RDNA, Zeta3DS,... By the way, I also bought Vue4 sidegrade ($99), Xfrog Lite upgrade ($89), Super Blade Pro Plugin ($30). A lot for a hobby. I would like to use all the progs and items more often, but my actual product consumes me and it takes more time to get it finished than expected. Mostly Poser5 problems...

catlin_mc ( ) posted Fri, 20 February 2004 at 5:28 AM

In my wallet nothing, and the amount spent on Poser was way too much. 8(

Nevermore ( ) posted Fri, 20 February 2004 at 6:30 AM

Too bloomin' much! :oD My wishlist at DAZ alone is approaching the $1000 mark (and some stuff has been taken off it) - and I don't want to convert that to Sterling :oD

So far in the last 8 months or so between here, DAZ, Runtime DNA and PP, erm well...Like I say - too bloomin' much, I don't wanna think about it. And I'm unemployed which makes the thought all the worse!

Schurby ( ) posted Fri, 20 February 2004 at 7:49 AM

According to my wife, "too much". Especially on Poser5 which I don't like or even use anymore. Exceeding $1200. Of course that includes Amapi, Autogroup editor, UVMapper Pro, and clothes, props etc.

Ye Gads! I try not to think about it..... I've actually never sat down and added it up, but I'm sure it has to be at least $500.

dialyn ( ) posted Fri, 20 February 2004 at 10:17 AM

All I'm going to admit to is that Renderosity - Daz - 3D Commune - Runtime DNA and a few others probably count on me for regular income. It's so sad. But, hey, did you see the new stuff in the Platinum Club? And the new texture by Sydd Raven? I want, I want, I want ..... ! I need to get control over impulse buying. But not this week.

XENOPHONZ ( ) posted Fri, 20 February 2004 at 11:24 AM

I've bought tons more Poser stuff than I could ever possibly use. Even if I spent 24/7 doing nothing except working in Poser for the next several years......

And that doesn't begin to cover all of the freestuff that I've downloaded.

My name's Alan - I'm a Poserholic - I've spent over $2000 dollars on Poser in the last year - that does include hardware upgrades to my system (a DVD burner for archiving my purchases, an Athlon XP 3200 CPU & an upgrade to 1 Gb of RAM to render faster, A motherboard that's future-proof (ATA133 RAID & SATA RAID, Firewire, 6 USB Ports, Dual Channel capability for memory)). Yup, all this for a "hobby". But I don't care. This hobby gives me a lot of enjoyment and I love being part of the poser community - just another lunatic in the Asylum.

rain ( ) posted Fri, 20 February 2004 at 1:53 PM

I'm with you, Caly. A major case of denial ;-)

BekaVal ( ) posted Fri, 20 February 2004 at 2:31 PM

Wallet? I love this nice little plastic card - it does magical things - as long as my husband doesn't disown me - he always grunts a lot when he reads the account statements - and who knows - some day there will be one spending for "Bondware" or "DAZ-Productions" too much on them for his liking - and then - - - Must hurry - there were some items in the marketplace which need my immediate attention - - - ;)

Oh, I am SO not looking. Last time I chacked (more than a year ago), I had spent over 3 grand. That doesn't count Poser 4, Pro Pack, or Poser 5. It also doesn't count any of the hardware upgrades. That's JUST add-in stuff. Talk about addictions...

ChromeTiger ( ) posted Fri, 20 February 2004 at 10:59 PM

checked, dammit, checked...

wushing ( ) posted Sat, 21 February 2004 at 1:49 PM

Very good question:
Renderosity: $1,613.75
DAZ: $1,495.03 this includes the PC club membership and renewing it early to catch deals...
RDNA: $102.28
Animotions: $122.80
Total: $3230.58 just for Poser!!!!
Other related software: $89.00 for upgrade to XP, plus my older Norton products wouldn't work with XP, had to buy new Norton package: another $80.00...
I'm going back to plaster sculpting and oil painting, (sigh)

ShadowWind ( ) posted Sat, 21 February 2004 at 8:14 PM

When I feel like adding it up, I lay down until the feeling goes away. It is somewhere around 2K for the last 2 years, but then a week's vacation at Disney just cost me that, so it's all relative I guess...
