THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Re: Video Card Upgrade

I have a Gateway 266 with some default 2MB card installed. I'm looking at upgrading my video card and seriously looking at video out for the majority of tasks (15" is on it's weak leg), and being able to bounce my animations to the VCR would really be nice. The heaviest graphics I use are Bryce, Photoshop 5.5, and Freespace 2. I am concerned that my AGP 2x is sorely outdated and may not work well. Will a new card help appreciably, or am I barking up the wrong tree, and should focus on some other improvement?

Bryce does not support video acceleration, so it won't really matter much. I have a 32 meg ATI card, and it is no different than built-in video, except for games. I think PhotoShop gets a big boost from fast cards, though. As far as video I/O, that all matters on what quality you want and your budget...you get what you pay for.

Upgrade your processor, get as much memory as you can afford, then worry about the video card
