Subject: Signatures?

BeZerK ( ) posted Mon, 08 March 2004 at 9:36 AM · edited Tue, 11 February 2025 at 2:47 PM

I'm not sure if this post would be better somewhere else, but I'm interested in designing and labelling my work with a signature. At this moment I only own and work out of Vue d'Esprit and although I'm not positive, I'm pretty sure I can't use this program for signatures. What would artists here recommend?

Obviously I would like either a program I can do other things in as well, or a recomendation for some freeware or shareware.

Later this year I am looking to purchase a program for painting, perhaps Painter 8 or Photoshop, but until then I would like to work on my signature so at least my work seems a bit more professional for friends and family. :) Thanks for any advice!!

I have seen a lot of excellent work done using the paint program that is part of windows. Have you tryed using that for a signature. Do a search with google for PhotoPlus 5.5 which is a free software that wil let you make signatures if I read it all correctly. It is Free.....:o)

well the demo is free but u cant save with the dogwaffle 1.6 demo as far as i know as far as signatures go thou i would realy like to see a 3d txt feature in vue, similar to c3s, not so much for signatures but its a real usefull feature and not to hard to implement

For a really cheap (free) but powerful paint package try the GIMP from the URL above. This requires a sertain amount of technical knowloedge to install but it is a very powerful program. If you have an artistic background definitely go for Painter.

Cheers,
Mark

I use a product called AiS Watermark Pictures Protector. It is available at www.watermarker.com. Sells for $30.00 (US). I think it's kind of neat. -Lin

My two cents... if you have a scanner, try scanning your own signature in shades of gray and use the pic in a Vue terrain then clip the unwanted parts.. you can obtain a very neat 3d effect with the whole range of Vue's texturing and lighting :)

When I've needed to do a signature and don't want to bother with post processing it in I have created one by using the terrain editor (similar to the method of bringing in DEM files through the editor, create a terrain, reset it and click on "picture" and load an image of any text created in windows paint or any paint program and then adjust accordingly, it tends to look bumpy just because of the nature of terrain objects but it works and I'm sure you could smooth it out if you were so inclined. Then just apply any material you want to it and increase the "luminous" effect in the effects tab of the mat. editor and you're all set (just be sure to turn off "cast shadows" as well) This may seem like a lot of work but you only have to do it once and save it as a vob object for future use.
