Subject: Newbie help please - foreshortening horizons

i know this will turn out to be something blindingly obvious but i haven't been able to figure out how to make the horizon appear closer. i would like to be able to put things on or immediately in front of the horizon but it's just so far away... thanks in advance

As far as I know you can only move the horizon up and down, not closer or farther.

I'm not sure you can bring the horizon physically closer in Byrce. Try, though, playing with the haze settings. More or less haze should change the illusion of the horizon. You might also be able to change the illusion by either adding distant objects that will give you another "horizon" look--like a low line of mountains or trees. In the snow scene I did recently, I didn't want the infinite horizon either, so I turned the haze completely off and tilted my terrains up in the back just a bit, then put lots of trees in to help hide things. HTH! :o)

thanks for the info - i had thought i had just done my usual trick of missing an obvious setting. :) i'll try what you suggested eelie - much gratitude

Another thing you can try is to make another infinite plain(in addition to the default plain) tilt it to 90 degrees parallel to the camera, and make it negative in attribute. Make your default plain positive and group the two together and viola, instant false horizon. You could also take a 2d object and expand it as needed to represent your ground plain. Not knowing what you had in mind, I thought I'd offer up some alternatives, lol.
