I've had Bryce 5 for a few months now. This would be my first annoying newbie question. Can you do boolean funtions on Metaballs? Thanks a lot.

get the 5.1 update. i think ctrl+click on metaballs gives you a negative one. drac

sorry, but nope, that didn't work. I can't get booleans of any kind involving a metaballs, not with other metaballs or with the primatives. Booleans with Primatives thou I have no problem. my luck its just some simple little thing.. :P

It's shift+click to get a negative metaball. The one quirky thing about them tho', is they don't look negative primitives...that sort of dotted wireframe. One suggestion is when you make a negative metaball, change the family color of it so it's easy to spot later. Oh, and I'm not sure there's any stupid questions here. How else do you learn if you don't ask? ;o)

OK super I tried that and it worked great, thanks a lot eelie. But can I use primitives to boolean a metaball group?

it's in there. don't know if it's ctrl, alt, or what, but you click on them while holding the key, and the metaball doesn't show on render. it's a negative one. and you can't use negative metaballs with anything else (or positive ones with negative terrains). i might not have 5.1 installed myself. anyway, if it still doesn't work, try searching for bryce+negative+metaballs in google and see what comes up. cheers

metaballs aren't booleaned normally (positive/negative attributes). As stated above you use shift-click on the creation icon and it will look like a normal metaball. Make sure it's bounding box overlaps some with a normal metaball and render, it should negate some of the positive metaball. It's a good idea to rename the negative ones so you know what they are.

Like Drac said, booleaned metaballs don't boolean with anything other than metaballs. (doesn't work with primitives, etc)(unfortunately) You can make some crazy metaball stuff, and yes picture textures work on them. ;o) AgentSmith

And don't forget the way two positive metaballs with two different textures close enough to act on each other also blend their textures. That's pretty cool.

hhmmmnnnn....I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned how way cool your space-ship is. I love the texturing and lighting, and also the design :o))

I like the lighting..about the design..makes me feel like grabbing a hold of it and shaking it?? you know..it will go flop, flop, flop??? Sorta makes me squeamish.. space ship that will have a zillion worms as it's inhabitants... Ok..ok..just my two pence bit...
