That is incredible! I love that kind of stuff anyway. You did a great job. That is a different texture for a helmet and shield, but I like it. Love the dragon emblems! :) ~Damia~

bigbadelf - the wall was actually the easiest part of creating this. First, I created a cube primitive and applied a Bryce preset texture (whichever texture loaded when I clicked the dot under 'diffuse'). A little fiddling in the DTE to get more or less the colour I wanted, then added a little bump. Once I had the colour and texture of the wall to my liking, I then added the wall crack texture I had created earlier in a secondary bump channel. It took a little while tweaking the frequency of the 'crack' texture so that it looked natural, but I am pretty pleased with the results. Aldaron - I have to agree with you about the axe, and am re-rendering this right now. The sword stays though. :) This is the first in a series I am doing to illustrate a book, and that sword plays a prominent role, tarnish and all. Damia - Thanks! When 'still life' was annouced for this month's challenge, this was the first thing to come to mind. Somehow rendering fruit and flowers just didn't appeal to me. ;)
Dons pedant's hat Getting down to the nitty gritty, I'm wondering about the decoration on the front of the shield and breastplate. If you think about it, the main design consideration for shields and breastplates would be a way of deflecting sword or spear thrusts, so that they skid off and the energy/force is dispersed harmlessly. Raised decorations would give a foothold (as 'twere) to the points of weapons, so the force of a blow might pierce the armour. My un-requested 0.02 cents' worth :o)
Mabye it's for show, not for use in a fight? Or, when an attacker's sword catches on the emblem, the attackee can then move the shield to the side, therefore disarming his attacker? Just making conversation. Plus, I really like the way it looks even if it wouldn't work in a real battle. :) And, Jaymonjay, I hear you on the flowers and fruit thing. While I love flowers, Ihave a passion for fantasy and horror. I would have done something else, but I just don't have the talent for it. Maybe some day. :) ~Damia~
